Pearl (2022)
This needed an Oscar Nomination
While X ended with wasted potential that it ended up not being liked in my books, I enjoyed this film more than X. This film had some of the best acting from Mia Goth. They managed to make this film be disturbing and frightening compared to X which over the top by way more. This film needed an Oscar for best female actress in a leading role but she wasn't Nominated. This film had great potential and managed to lose only some compared to X. While I'm generally into this film, I thank X for being made by Ti West Otherwise, Pearl wouldn't have been made. So I really thank Pearl for coming ik as Pearl.
X (2022)
The Film with so Much Potential
X is a 2022 film where the potential stayed so strong but lost so much of it afterwards. X was fine, it has good characters and other good things. It had a solid performances, it was genuinely a good time. Needless to say, The horror they put in to this film was wasted potential. It's gory elements trying to gross the viewers but there is no actual horror that can terrify people. It's just shocking and disturbing. The Climax of this film was shockingly bad. Not because it was trash but because it felt rushed. Our final character dies and there's less than 10 minutes of the movie so the scared protagonist immediately becomes fierce? In the end, Pearl was better than this film and needless to say, this wasn't trash at all. But it's potential fell drastically.
Barbarian (2022)
If this movie was a bit longer, I would've loved it even more
Barbarian is by far an underrated film in the horror community because after it had its prime for September, it had been forgotten 3 months later. Rewatching this movie, I realized that this film could've played longer. Maybe 20-35 minutes perhaps. That way, I would get the full story because 70% of this film was just character development and while the film tried a lot to make it suspenseful the last 30 minutes, I could not find myself loving this film. I like the film but it needed so much more. The potential was great but it wasn't where I could love this film. It wasn't perfectly executed and it's okay. However, the last 30 minutes were well done and kept me hooked. The ending was a bit stingy but this film and Pearl tie first place for best horror movie in 2022.
Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. (2023)
A PG-13 movie that is not PG-13
Kelly Fremon Craig came with a new solid film. The Edge of Seventeen is relatively a solid film featuring a funny cast and this film was no surprising for how good it was. Surprisingly, this is better than I expected it to be. I have to say that this film is very much a kids movie but because of the sexual education of this film, well. This movie had a great cast and well I loved the religious aspects to it. God is often hated by the world so for movies like The Whale to mention God is something I really appreciated. The cast was phenomenal especially the main character who has some acting experience but never won an academy award. I want this film to get an Oscar for Best Screenplay and Leading and Supporting Roles. Thank you, Judy. For a phenomenal book.
Poker Face: The Night Shift (2023)
Setting is the worst
I like this episode, at first, I didn't know what was actually going but throughout many episodes, I've actually realized that this was some sort of trilogy and I like it so far. Hong Chau in this is honesty spine chilling since she played in one of my favorite movies, "The Whale" Hong getting an Oscar is insane and I enjoy it. So for her getting in this mystery show is amazing. However, I was quite uncomfortable with the setting in this episode since I don't like the country side of places where things are far apart and such. However, this is a good approach to an episode. I really enjoyed it.
Poker Face: Dead Man's Hand (2023)
Natasha and Her Vocals
When I heard Natasha Lyonne was going to play the main star, I just forgotten how her voice isn't like her teenage years or when she played in the movie "But I'm a Cheerleader" Another thing is that I heard that Clea Duvall will be playing a role in this which is heartening. This first episode shocked me especially with its mood and entertainment. To this day, my favorite scene of this show is when Natasha is running through the hallway getting shot at. This is a shocking episode and I feel like this was perfect for a first episode. Natasha Lyonne being in this shocks me since I don't see her in a lit of these films.
Poker Face (2023)
Knives Out meets American Horror Stories
Rian Johnson is terrible at making Blockbuster Films, Mysteries on the other hand is a different story. Rian's attempt at an sort of anthology series having starring Natasha Lyonne and her little adventures as she travels around the country is surprising wildly entertaining. Peacock is a mixed opinion as a whole and for this to release on Peacock gave me the icky feeling. And it did, sort of. I'm a city person and the country feeling gives me an uncomfortable perspective, but throughout this show, I'm not afraid it but this show gave me a great surprise and I was worried it was going to get bad reviews. Surprising, it didn't. I'm happy about this.
Nobody (2021)
The Perks of being a Roadkill
Oh God, This movie is all twisty in only 90 minutes, I don't know if I should feel good about or not. Nonetheless, this movie is creative, totally a wacky adventure with a spice of what they home invasion.
1. Normal Day is not so normal.
The first few minutes was just total confusion. I didn't whether or not this would be a horror movie or not.
2. Plot points.
From the 25 minute mark to the hour mark, we get so much it actually made me think if it can pull off something shorter than 90 minutes.
3. Climactic Shooting and GTA s*it.
A lot of action and therefore, I think that this film had done a well job.
