American Nightmare (2024)
Eerie
The music alone deserves a rating! Whoever was responsible in the selection of music deserves a medal. There were certain parts of the documentary where I had an unsettling feeling because of what I was seeing but also because of what I was hearing with the sound effects and music. I suggest you go into this without reading what it's about because it makes it that much more interesting to watch. I had no clue where this was going or who the villain was. It makes you second guess everything but realize there is also an issue with how cases are solved these days, with police honing in on one suspect and not doing any real investigation.
Mea Culpa (2024)
Potential with a lot of holes
This movie had a lot of potential. I was engaged from the jump, mainly from the relationship the main character had with her husband and his family. However, it did lose me halfway through. There were a lot of holes in the plot, which I was hoping would be answered by the end of the movie, but it still left me feeling unfulfilled. Tyler Perry definitely kept the theme of his movies with the main female character being the alpha female, while holding it down. A husband who doesn't appreciate all that she does and a family that wants to see the demise of their relationship. That story alone could have been a movie. Now the crime part of the movie was good in the beginning, but became too much with the sexual tension between the lawyer and her client. I feel like this movie was to give more of a shock value and compete with other movies that are delivering similar storylines. The ending felt rushed but I hope we see more movies like this coming from Tyler Perry and other black directors.
The OctoGames (2022)
Bootleg Version of Squid Games! Still Entertaining
If you're able to look pass this being the bootleg version of squid games, it's not too bad. Yes, the acting is off, but there were some characters who were able to carry the weight of the movie and they had me interested the whole way through. I'm actually hoping there will be a sequel. I did find the character of Jaxpro to be annoying but I get the concept of his character was to be a "brand" and "entertaining". His interaction with his girlfriend was annoying and totally over the top, but it makes sense. I was definitely rooting for the underdogs of the movie and loved seeing how they would navigate each round. The backstabbing character was typical but overall it did it's job. Give it a shot but go in with low expectations.
