The Grand Tour: The Grand Tour: Sand Job (2022)
Guys are getting to old, cars are getting too good.
It is rather painful to watch the show is sinking. How all the things we love it for are falling apart. Chemistry for them is not working, puns they've always had for each other are really lame. Jeremy is a biggest star in worth way - he won't get anything done to his car from James and Richard, he will (for sure!) win drag race (and that's the only competition).
And cars... Are just good (except for Richard), they will endure without any trouble and just behave, so Clarkson and May will just cruise in different locations. Modifications are normal, the only ridiculous updates were too ridiculous (it was always so cool to see their ridiculous updates but with some sense) and after 5 minutes even those weirdos just have gone for good.
And chemistry again - they did not have it for cars too. You simply won't get that connection with a car that merely survived but did it's best when your car was just working. You won't get some climax point at the finish when all you were doing was just regular driving on good roads, bad roads, little offroad in some beautiful location.
Some say, they've run out of ideas. But all we know is that guys are getting old and it is too obvious.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Scorsese making same mistakes again
Another great expectations of Scorsese filmmaking, great actors, intriguing story were ruined by this unnecessary long timing and unnecessary love for some actors from Scorsese.
I don't want to describe yet again all the arguments why this movie is too long. But after watching the movie I was interested in this story and was left with several questions like why Mollie even chose Ernest? Why Ernest did not develop stronger feelings for Mollie? Why uncle William acting like he has whole life ahead? And how he managed to spend rather long time in jail, and then was able to visit Oklahoma?
Well, Google had those answers. Photo from 1917 with Mollie and Ernest is explanatory enough, why not very young woman is willing to find her happiness with a man 6 years younger. For those times it meant a lot.
But the most choking fact was the age of the King. He was 18 years older than Ernest, and just 12 years older than Mollie. He was 43 when Mollie and Ernest got married! And it terribly changes how do you see him and his relationship with Ernest, Mollie and all Osages. He was not that old and wise friend they knew all life. He was young enough and full of energy.
With all respect to DeNiro, but that another Scorseses attempt to have an old friend to play forty years younger person destroys integrity of the story. It looks unnatural and leaving with questions you don't need.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Ridiculous
While the first movie has serious characters and strong enough motives - franchise was dropping quality with each next movie. This time it's just ridiculous. Blind assassin. Good blind assassin. Characters from Burton's Batman. Astonishingly stupid dialogs. Undying everybody. Keanu Reeves aka superman. Lack of blood and gore for movie with such violence. Bulletproof hands. Bulletproof jackets.
Universe in first movie was intriguing, it was dark, mysterious, but realistic enough. Bad guys were just bad guys, smart and practical. And now it's just neon comics with grotesque cartoonish enemies.
Dialogs weren't a strong part in any of Wick's franchise movie, but here they're are just terrible. Action is good, but way too long. What will we see in next part? New suit with carbon nipples? Wick will rise from his grave? Fall damage off completely?
