Carrie Pilby (2016)
Carrie Pilby has a special place in my heart
Carrie Pilby has a special place in my heart. It's one of those movies I can watch again and again. Probably because I recognise so much of her in myself. Ahead of my pears, socially kinda awkward, loss of a parent.. Doesn't happen often that a movie feels so close to (my) real life. And still it has a great character arc, witty writing and of course Bel Powly and William Moseley aren't the worst people in the world to watch. Do you know how some people see the kissing-in-the-rain-scene from The Notebook as the pinnacle of romance? For me the scene where Carrie and Cy walk and dance in the street - especially when he offers his coat - is my ultimate romantic scene which I do hope will occur in my life once. Because as the quote/message of this movie says: you're allowed to be happy.
The Swimmers (2022)
The world needs movies like this, with messages like this
This movie touched me deeply. The Swimmers is a story about humanity, perseverance, love and hope. About family. In the realest way. The fact that all of this happened is unbelievable, and the fact it happened and keeps happening so much (meaning war and refugees) is heartbreaking to me. In our western world we tend to forget. So I'm grateful for this movie to bring forward this message. Even more grateful to have done this in such a beautiful and respectful way. The script is amazing, the cinematography is amazing and so are the actors. This is my first IMBd review and I just had to write it.
