Short and Boring
20 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A short PSA about bridging the gap between democrats and republicans, but it's boring. Considering they had Sean Penn and Kid Rock, they could have worked on and made it better.

Good Binge Watch
20 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
"So I married my Anti-fan" is based on a novel of the same name that was adapted to a webtoon (two different versions) and a Chinese movie. Each adaptation I've read or seen is slightly different, though they all start the same way. The webtoon is the best adaptation (though I have not read the book), while this show comes in second. I would have given it a higher rating had there been fewer toxic tropes and if the ending was closer to the webtoon.

Geun Young's relationships (besides Roy) with her friends and family were sweet, loving, and solid. Her friends would help her if they did not want to or even when it was hard for them. Soo Hwan was not romantically interested in either of the girls, which was nice because that is never the case in Kdramas. Geun Young's relationship with her parents was supportive, sweet, and protective (which should be all parents). It was good to see that her parents were not pushing her towards Hoo Joon because of his looks or financial standing in society, another cliché in Kdramas. Her parents stood up for her and gave Hoo Joon a hard time because of Geun Young's treatment in the media. This was great to see, especially since Geun Young's mom comes off harsh at the beginning. More interactions between her, her parents, and her friends would have made her character more dimensional.

In contrast, Hoo Joon seems to have no one but Seo Ji Hyang (his manager), Bae Young Seok (CEO of Shooting Star), JJ, and In Hyung. It was a nice contrast between the two characters; How Geun Young has so many people she can trust and depend on, while he has no one. This lets you make allowances for him and his bad behavior, which starts early. I was shipping the two but thought they should have done more to make Hoo Joon sympathetic and develop his character. The webtoon did a better job of gaining your sympathy. Misunderstandings were left unexplained, and he never really apologizes properly for it either. But he does enough cute and sweet things towards the middle and end that you forget about it.

The relationship between In Hyung and JJ was horrible. They should never have been together. The show figured out how to make both of these characters as toxic and unsympathetic as they could. You never feel bad for either of the characters. In Hyung uses Hoo Joon to try and further her career while also trying to get back into a relationship with him even though she initiated the breakup. For some reason, the show pretends that this is not the case. She emotionally abuses everyone around her and plays the victim. The worst part is she is a victim of physical and emotional abuse. Though JJ is warranted in his weariness and suspicion of the relationship between Hoo Joon and In Hyung he goes too far when he physically and emotionally abuses In Hyung and is just a horrible and jealous person. Though the ending wasn't the worst, giving In Hyung and JJ a redemption arc when neither of them did anything to deserve it was just so unsatisfying. Having them stay together was not only a horrible choice to make but a horrible message to send to young girls. Just all bad things here.

The show kept all the essential parts the same (except the ending), and most of the changes were good. It kept you guessing because it changed things up enough to make it appear new. Most of the time, I hate when adaptations deviate from the source material, but in this case, I feel like they made it work. The last three episodes would work better if combined into half an episode. Instead, they could have focused on Hoo Joon's character development in the earlier episodes and shown us more scenes with Geun Young's family and friends. This would cut the slow plot development at the end and give us more insight into the two characters. The cast and production team did a great job with the show. My two favorite characters from this show were Seo Ji Hyang and Go Soo Hwan. These two were my absolute favorites, especially Ji-Hyang silently laughing at Hoo Joon and Geun Young. He was just so sweet.

Based on True Events

Warning: Spoilers
Watched this show because it was recommended through a podcast I was listening to about Robert Hansen. It was a pretty good movie but it was nothing special. I feel like this was one of those movies you can have on in the background and watch but not really have to pay full attention to understand everything. Basically its about Cindy Paulson was a victim of Robert Hansen but managed to escape and tell cops her story. And its her point of view as well as the special agent who was in charge of the serial killer case.

It was a decent watch but I would really have liked if they had shown more of how Cindy was able to escape. Having listened to the podcast and then watched this I really don't think they show how strong Cindy was for escaping her situation and how smart she was. They also don't really dwell on how horrible of a job the Alaskan cops did when it came to this case. There were numerous reports and complaints filed against Robert Hansen and nothing was really done because people knew Robert and were dismissive of the girls.

I think seeing less of the cops family background and maybe more of Robert Hansens would have made this more interesting too. Or maybe even more of Cindy Paulson's background. But the Special agents background just did not add much to the story.

The acting was pretty good. Was excited to see Kurt Fuller and Nicolas Cage since its been a while since I saw a movie from either of those two. And Vanessa Hudgens does a great job too. John Cusack was amazing as the killer cause he could go from quiet to crazy and angry which was really weird to see and I really think that he actually kind of looked like the guy too.

Overall, good to see if you want a basic knowledge of the killings. Not the best if you have issues with sexual assault, murder and drugs.

Great Horror Movie
22 March 2021
I don't really get scared much when watching horror movies but this one got to me. I have been thinking about this for days now and can't seem to get it out of my head. This is one of those movies that you need to pay attention to and you can't watch while being distracted. If you are watching this for jump scares, slasher horror or something to have on in the background this is not the movie for you. You definitely won't like it.

There's tons of reviews on here so I won't really go much into it besides saying the acting was amazing. The content of this movie is super heavy since there is a lot of death and grief. There's also talk on the pressure of having children even though main character didn't want to (which she tells her child). So emotionally you get really messed up and you feel for the whole family and see where they are coming from even though you don't agree with them all the time. There are clues from almost the first moment the movie gets started so the ending doesn't come out of nowhere but its definitely has its surprises.

I have to say the relationship between the mother and children just really got to me. Especially towards the end. The tension building up between the family and the constant uneasiness you feel (but you really don't understand why) really comes together in the end and freaks you out.

Definitely would recommend this but I think only a certain type of person would like this kind of movie.

No Escape Room (2018 TV Movie)

Interesting concept not the best execution
13 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was a entertaining movie and definitely had me a bit scared at time but not great when it came to making us understand what was going on. I am not sure whether they did this on purpose or just didn't explain it that well but the ending is confused and throughout the movie you end up having more questions and none of them ever get answered.

The acting was not great but it wasn't the worst either and the characters that they played weren't really expanded on. Andrew by far was the most mysterious in the group and I was sure he was there and had more knowledge but of course you didn't find out anything about him. And it ended up going nowhere. There was some definitive creepy vibes from Andrew toward Karen which was not great but I am glad that they did not go anywhere with that. Michael and Karen did not look like father and daughter, at all. First he looked like he could be her brother in age and in looks there was nothing that made them resemble one another. The couple that came (Melanie and Tyler) also had a weird dynamic and it was a bit annoying to see how freaked out Tyler was of these type of areas but she had dragged him anyway. But thats basically all you ever know of any of the characters. You don't get backstories or any story as to why they are really there or why they were in that town.

The plot of the movie had a lot of holes in it but I did like the fact that we were not introduced to a million characters and it was just the main group of people we meet in the beginning. You don't really get a backstory of why the house is the way it is. Who the inventor is? or why he was doing all this? What happened to Josie?

I watched this on Netflix and you could tell this was a made for TV movie because they would blackout when there should have been commercials. I am not sure why they couldn't just take that out in editing.

Overall, its a good movie to watch to entertain yourself for an hour and not have to think too much or keep track of characters. But its a one time watch.

Not great!

Warning: Spoilers
I was quickly sucked into this show from episode 1. I could not get enough of the characters and the chemistry between the Male lead, Female Lead and the Second Male Lead. As much as I like the ML I really loved the SML as well. But things get a bit dicey when it comes to the ML's personality and this really turned me off from the show.

Love the friendships in the story. The FL and her roommates are very close and you really see the love and support they have for one another. Each of them have a certain role in a friendship and I loved seeing one as more nurturing and the other as headstrong but they all made it work. They were great at giving advice and standing up for each other but also at giving each other space when it was needed. The ML and his roommates had a great relationship as well. There was one guy that just understood everyone around him and was constantly helping out as much as he could especially when it came to the ML who never said a word or showed any emotion. His roommates also had different purpose and were always encouraged him in pursuing relationships.. The friendships between them are so positive and so great that if this was more about their relationships I think this would be a

The ML and FL had great chemistry and I really liked that they did not really like each other in the beginning but grew to like one another throughout the series. I also like that she was seriously not interested in this guy despite the fact that he was supposedly the most good looking, the most athletic, the smartest guy, the most artistic ... and the list goes on. Its when they are in a relationship when the toxic masculinity steps in. He is constantly jealous and making her promise not see male friends. She decides to tell her friend that she is dating the ML and instead of letting her tell the guy he shows up where she is and watches her. Its super creepy. And later is mad at her because things did not go the way he wanted and she accepts his anger and blames herself! There are scenes where he kisses her and your like ummmmm that just doesn't seem like she has much of a choice. And the last episode really just got to me. They go to a motel and he basically tricks her into spending the night with and having sex even though she clearly was uncomfortable. I see this a lot in Cdramas and I don't understand why.

The SFL was crazy. I mean she really needed help but she was a stalker and when the ML would see her he would tense up and I can't blame him that has got to be one of the most stressful things in the world. To be constantly followed no matter what you do or say to someone. I hated this aspect of the show.

I wouldn't recommended this to anyone because I had high hopes and was really disappointed.

Great show
14 December 2020
I started watching this show not having any idea what the format was like or that all the actors were celebrities, and by the time I completed the first episode, I was hooked. This show is amazing because it's partly scripted and partly improvised.

The chemistry between the characters is fun to watch, and as the show goes on the actors start getting more comfortable with one another. Each member brings their unique skill to the team. It's also nice to see that the two women (Min-young and Se-Jeong) on the team carry them through many challenges and puzzles using their smarts and bravery while the men stand on the sidelines. And both of them get their hands dirty to make sure that they get results. Jae-suk leads the team and makes sure that they are on task. Lee Kwang-soo and Jong-Min are the comedic relief but also somehow will solve a solution once in a while that has the team stumped though usually, they do not contribute much to the solving of crimes. Sehun's competitiveness comes out super charming and infectious. He tends to be quiet, but two things seem to get him out of his shell: competition Ans Lee Seung-gi. He's the most mature of this group and the most helpful. You can tell that there are times that he does not want to do something or might be a bit scared, but when he sees that no one else will do the task, he steps up and willingly completes it (He is my favorite character on this show). Detective Ahn is the serious and quiet type and helps them keep things on track. And the new addition, Lee Seung-gi, brings athletics into the group but tends to be a bit more carefree and fun.

The mysteries on the show are like escape room-type puzzles, and some of them are in Korean or Chinese, so they can be difficult to follow while others, can be solved. Most of the mysteries or crimes on the show seem like they are just for that one episode, but in the end, they tie them all together.

The first season's plot was not great. Some of the storylines did not make sense, and you could tell they tried hard to make everything connect. The things that kept me watching were the characters and the challenges that they completed. But the second and third season was amazing. There was a clear plot and mystery solved in the last episode though the ending felt open-ended. Though some episodes were not part of the overall story, there were still elements that connected to a larger plot. This season seemed like a whodunit, and there were clues sprinkled throughout the whole season helping you solve the case. I did not figure out who it was until five seconds before the reveal (not sure that counts) but looking back, there were more than enough clues as to who the killer was from the first episode.

Overall, would highly recommend this show. It's a fun watch that's lighthearted even with all the murder going on you are just detached from it because it looks so fake."

The Underclass (2020– )

Disappointing :(
30 September 2020
Started out pretty good but just got worse as the TV show progressed. The actors were not bad but there was many moments in every episode where they were not getting the correct directions and just made the scenes awkward. In one of the basketball scenes they seem to be bantering back and forth and there are lots of people around them but you could not actually hear them. They would stand around or just not say anything. I have never noticed background sounds or the way people stand around on a show before until now and its because they did such a bad job.

Directing and editing was also pretty bad. Though the overall plot was good the details were all over the place. None of the people get punished for their bad behavior.

The things I did like about this show was the friendship aspect of it and the hard choices they had to make to make it work. The chemistry between the romantic interests were also good but was having a hard time with how that story progressed, especially because he was a teacher. But I think they did take care of it the right way.

Overall, not something I would watch again or recommend.

Hook (2020– )

Enjoyable
29 September 2020
Overall this show was pretty enjoyable to watch. It did start out a bit rough but by the second episode I was hooked despite there being some issues. It is a pretty stereotypical coming of age/High School (though they were in college) with a bit of some soap opera plot twists. The issues were plenty but still somehow managed to like this show. I think the main reason being that the actor that plays Man's character did such a good job in getting his emotions across. I genuinely loved that character. The actress playing Hongyok also had a charm to her. She was super annoying but you could not help but like her. Parents on this show were the worst except for Dao's Mom.

The acting was really good but the directing of this was horrible. People were always awkwardly standing around areas or there would be these weird uncomfortable pauses. The script would also just introduce characters and then completely get rid of them make you wonder why this person was even introduced to you in the first place. It also almost completely drops the going to school part of the show at some point and just focuses on the boxing. But I think of the most annoying things was the fight scenes which you could clearly tell no one was getting hit. For a show that's about boxing and fights I would think they would do a better job of making sure that the fight scenes were good.
