Ninjago: Roots (2022)
Season 4, Episode 30
1/10
This is the worst season finale to any ninjago season. If not, this is the worst season of ninjago overall.

Warning: Spoilers
Let me get this straight: This finale is basically the season 2 finale, but much, MUCH worse. Throughout this season, they threw away all the development the characters of ninjago had: Lloyd, Nya, Jay, Cole, Zane, Pixal, Harumi, Overlord, Mechanic, and many more characters were victims in this season's god-awful writing. This season's writing is so bad, to the point where THE OTHER ELEMENTAL MASTERS WERE FORGOTTEN OF. Excluding the ninja, the only elemental master that actually returned from season 4 is Skylor. Any other elemental master is completely ignored of, and isn't mentioned at all either.

This finale also ruined the characters: The episode starts out with a fakeout death, with Garmadon "dying". I'm personally tired of the fakeout deaths.

Because of Garmadon "dying", Lloyd FINALLY achieves his oni form, which was built up throughout this whole season. Appearantly, the oni form is only seen for like 20 seconds. Lloyd switches out of his oni form because it's "bad" and "evil" though this barely makes any sense.

Instead of the oni form, the OG 4 ninja sacrifice their elemental powers/dragon forms to give it to Lloyd. Now, you could expect something like the ultimate spinjitzu master form/golden ninja form of Lloyd returning, right? Well, you guessed wrong.

Instead of something like that, we get a four-headed golden dragon with the 4 elemental powers.

Wow. Just wow.

The Overlord and Lloyd with his golden dragon fight a bit, until Lloyd succeeds and destroys Overlord's body, saving Ninjago.

This was a final battle that people did NOT expect to see, and I'm pretty sure people weren't happy with it at all either.

Harumi's redemption arc is so rushed and is so bad, Lloyd has been a jerk to Garmadon throughout the whole season, and he didn't learn anything from this. HOWEVER, when it comes to Harumi suddenly 'redeeming' herself, he says "She's with us" like PARDON ME?

Nya was also portrayed as a nobody without her element throughout this season. She is treated like a complete joke in this season, to the point where she has ABSOLUTELY NO DIALOGUE IN THE FINALE. A character as important as Nya, is thrown away to the side, entirely ignored.

This is genuinely a very terrible/embarassing "finale" and a "final season" to an amazing show like Ninjago.

I'm glad we got Ninjago Dragons Rising as it is continuing the series, rather than letting it end on a horrible season like this.

THIS is how you make a pre-reboot
17 March 2024
So far Dragons Rising Seasons 1 & 2 dropped, and I gotta say that Seasons 1 & 2 of Dragons Rising are some of the best seasons of Ninjago ever produced. The story isn't rushed at all as it actually takes its time to fully flesh out the characters and the stories, speaking of the characters: There are a bunch of newly introduced characters in this pre-reboot, even 3 brand new members for the ninja team. All 3 of them are well-written and are actually likeable characters. There's also a baby/teenager dragon called Riyu in the team, which is like the baby yoda/baby groot of Ninjago right now.

Speaking of the old ninja, they're also still in this show as a huge part of it, and they aren't entirely sidelined. If they are sidelined, then that is simply a buildup for the future of Ninjago (Dragons Rising seasons 3, 4, 5 etc.) The villains are also cool except for a few which I think are just meh.

And the animation. Oh. My. Goodness.

That animation is absolutely phenomenal. It's genuinely so visually beautiful, so beautiful to the point where you'll forget that this is a LITERAL LEGO SHOW ABOUT RAINBOW NINJA MINIFIGURES. That's how good the animation is.

Overall, this is one of the best things that has ever happened to Ninjago after a horrible finale season (Season 15/Crystalized) and I am so happy that a great childhood show like Ninjago is still on its toes running for more and greater content to bring.
