Eight for Silver (2021)
Plot full of holes
It was an otherwise ok movie, but the dreadful plot made the low score. Without revealing too much of the plot, the protagonist says they will die if they go outside. "why won't you die?" They ask. "They are frightened of me because I have silver bullets". Meanwhile they have already killed werewolves with normal bullets. Huh?
At the end, there was POTENTIAL for a good twist, which would have been connected to the introduction. But I think they either cut some or didn't develop it, so it just made no sense.
Ok, I will put spoilers. Beginning, there are soldiers in WW1 in the trenches and 1 is injured. They not only pull out normal shells. But also a strange shell made out of silver.. Thr soldier is a captain & looks late 20's -early 30s.
Cut to (I guess) Victorian England -oil lanterns & they call villages on the estate "settlements" and the guns use powder and balls. The landowner has a son of about 10. Landowner kills gypsies & is cursed. Kids find silver teeth & 2 bites another, creating first werewolf monster.
(Internet says that powerless weapons were normal in 1890's)
Werewolf movie.
Final battle, mother is killed with silver bullet which passes through her to her 10 year old son. Son doesn't die, but becomes human again.
Protagonist adopts landowners's son & daughter. Segueway again to WW1 soldier to show that his name is that of landowner's son and the silver bullet on the tray. Ending is protagonist elderly & Dieing with the rest of the silver bullets on his dresser & the very matronly looking landowners daughter with him.
Point being, if they had showed the soldier turning BACK into a werewolf after the bullet was removed it might have made some sense. The other werewolf which was killed actually had the head and shoulders of the human victim INSIDE it which they only found (alive) inside the werewolf monster (which had its own head). Yet the landowner's son simply turned human again.
It just made no sense and there was no factor or combination of factors which redeemed that. No great scenery or costumes or anything.
It wasn't even SO BAD that a person could get pleasure at the bad effects or such. It was just bad.
Oh. At least the acting was ok. Most of them time.
The Vast of Night (2019)
This is why I'm not a film critic.
My average ok film is 5 with extra stars for great scenery or costumes, script, plot. Etc.
This was filmed entirely at night, taking place in the 50's. There must be a lot of skill in night shooting, sure, but I only saw country town at night in the 50's, two teenage kids running around saying what do we do now, the inside of a couple 50's sets and a 1950's basketball game.
The entire movie was waiting to see what exciting thing would happen as the tension kept building and hints were given and acted upon.
The climax was seeing a big mothership in the sky and their jaws dropping. Cut to the basketball game finishing & people exiting. Back to the stars looking at the ship / but they are gone - their belongings lieing on the ground.
We watch bad movies for fun. Just to make fun of the badness of them. We couldn't even do that.
It was just like watching paint dry. There were some really artsy scenes as cuts - abstract or through a b/W television screen. The acting was good - practically carried by 2 people. If it was an indie or uni production with no budget, I'd think it was great. Well, better. I would admire their work.
But it was just s l o w. I was so glad it was finished.
Legenda o Kolovrate (2017)
I would have rated it higher....
Except the beginning of it looked almost entirely CGI. However, I'm not a gamer, so it could have been just how it was filmed.
I rate 3-5 average, then add starts for good plot, beautiful scenery, acting, costuming, etc. The plot was plausible, just. The scenery was exquisite and the countryside was genuine, definitely. The city scenes were beautiful, but I think CGI.
The costuming was superb - particularly the Russian women, with gold, beads & lush textiles. Of course, the mongols costumes were great, but there is only so much you can do there.
There were moments of humour, romance, battle, huge armies, cleverness. Etc.
It was a good watch.
We didn't know it had English dubbing, though! It might have been less work.
Damsel (2024)
Why rate so high?
I'm really logical when it comes to movies. First, I don't look at directors/producers/cinema critics artsy stuff. I want a movie with a sound plot, good acting (which makes it believable), good special effects, good costuming and a beautiful setting. If a horrendous movie is a 0, then an ok movie would be three, average 5, good a 7 & 10 amazing.
Actually, I might have rated it a little low! The plot was good. There were no holes & it made perfect sense. Costuming was beautiful. The landscape was absolutely breathtaking. The acting was great. There wasn't any bad acting. I don't know what another reviewer was talking about the y King being "ok". I think all he did was nod his head once. I don't remember any lines now.
The special effects were really good. I didn't notice any size difference in the dragon. Of course it would look smaller or larger according to the size differences in the caverns.
All in all, it was a really good movie. Highly recommended.
Tian jiang xiong shi (2015)
Well, I liked it.
There are sooo many bad reviews! But what do people actually expect?
I watched it because I didn't know the Romans had conquered that far. I also love colourful films with costumes in exotic settings.
This film fulfilled all of the above and more, with 5 tribes + Parthigenians (and some Romans) against the evil Roman Overlord, Tiberius.
People might mock the "all the world become friends" message. But to be honest, it's a message that's needed in the world today. So it was really refreshing to see an actual moment in history where different people pulled together and the good guys win!
There were funny bits, but they became less as it went on and it got pretty grim towards the end.
But I found the fighting to be much more realistic than some other films. The costumes were awesome. The script was a lot better than some films I've seen. The plot was coherent and made sense. There were a couple moments that were touching (not in a nice person dieing sort of way) which actually brought tears. There were a couple funny bits, some engineering feats and some scenes which were ingeniously thought out and were quite different. The weapons looked awesome, the armour was breathtaking and even fabrics were beautiful.
I don't know how much of the story is true, but it makes me want to learn more. It makes me hope that people can band together to overcome evil. It was beautiful and entertaining. Actually, I think I will go back and increase my rating. :-D.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Far too long.
My husband says it could have been an hour shorter. I'm not sure the message would have come across quite as strongly that this was a conspiracy to kill the tribe members who had oil money, it was instigated by one man and the rest of the white people really though it was ok because they were "just savages". Very sad and wrong on so many levels.
I've never been a Leonardo diCaprio groupy. He was a pretty boy, ok actor but that's the extent of my interest. He wasn't even a pretty boy in this. He was a middle aged man, rather heavy, and you never actually figured out if he was "thick" or pretending to be thick because he's greedy and could use it as an excuse. Either way, his character was intensely....stomach churning.
The stomach churning is hard to describe. It wasn't just the slightly greasy look sometimes. It was far in history and they all looked like that. But it was the "simple" expression on his face. Facial expressions where his lower lip would stick out like pouting and a deep frown would furrow his cheeks/chin into rolls. If it had been drawn, people would have thought it was a caricature. Just skin-crawling and it made me deeply uncomfortable throughout the film.
But maybe that was the point. He didn't want to do a pretty boy role, but something with more depth. An argument could be made that the whole point was to never know if he was as evil as the others or just so stupid. I was left hoping he was incredibly clever and pretending to be stupid to come out on top of it all.
But this was a true story, so it didn't end that way. So in summary, it's a highly unattractive LC in a movie playing a stupid, greedy man, being manipulated by a clever one, being torn by love (maybe) of his wife and greed. In an old-fashioned setting that has some pretty scenes, but is mostly muddy, dirty environment of a small Western town full of dirty looking people. Except for the "injuns" who always looked clean. Oh. There were some clean normal looking white people too, but in the backgrounds.
What I did find interesting was it really caught the experience of resentment. You know, that look native people of other countries give tourists when they are trying to disguise their hatred of the people with more money "flaunting" it. Which was ironic since those same people lived off the money the Indians created (and ripped them off mercilessly). Oh wait. It is just like some holidays.
Anyway, I'd give it a miss unless you really like long movies. I certainly think it's a success as a character change for diCaprio. Though I don't think it takes much skill to frown and look stupid.
Seon-san (2024)
Beautiful, Thrilling & plausible
First, I'm not a film critic. I don't remember the cast from other films & compare performances. I don't know directors. I watch a film for its own merit. Then I usually forget it immediately. I might recognise cast from other films, but I watch films for their own merits and to enjoy them, not judge them. Even horrifically bad films are entertaining in their own way.
So I just try to describe without spoiling it.
We really loved this film.
The plot was good and made sense. The twists in the plot made sense. The tensions between characters had reasons which were explained and appropriate. The leading lady seemed a bit of a doormat, but actually there wasn't a lot she could do in certain circumstances.
I loved watching the scenery of the countryside and culture. It was colourful, beautiful and intensely fascinating. The work culture, however, looked really dreadful, and some of the people were quite distasteful. But they were supposed to be, so that's ok. It was quite nice to see that people who were supposed to be "respectable" as distasteful. Of course, that's real life, but it was a little interesting aspect.
It was a wonderful look into another culture. I'm really glad to have watched it and would highly recommend it!
Oh. The special effects and filming were really good, too!
Forst (2024)
Good until the completely rubbish ending.
First, it looked SO COLD the entire film. It was snow after snow after blizzard. The terrain was beautiful though. The setting was magnificent, in beautiful mountains.
The plot was good and the acting was good. It was a true mystery, with twists and turns. I was thinking it was going to be one of the best mystery had seen in a while.
Then comes an extra twist, and I was wondering what going to happen! How exciting!
Then comes the climax. And what a climax it was. It was SO EXCITING! How was it going to end?!
Absolute rubbish, that's how. Instead of solving the crime, suddenly the last scene showed two characters who had never met or spoken (that I saw anyway), doing something for no apparent reason and that was the end of the film.
It made no sense whatsoever. Well, it COULD have been THAT, but the end still made no sense, because those characters had never spoken.
Unless a scene was cut. Otherwise, it was just a desperate effort to make a twist ending.
So, there aren't any spoilers here except to tell you not to waste your time unless you enjoy being angry at a film ending.
If you do want to waste you're time, then enjoy, until the end.
Medusa's Venom (2023)
The 1 is for effort.
It's all the other movie reviews combined.
But be warned.
We watch bad movies for fun, just to see how bad they are. We watch them through to the end for full LOL.
We turned this off after 20 minutes.
It was dire, boring, no plot, and, actually, all the actresses looked the same. They must have been about 15 because none of them had breasts. I kind of thought breasts were required in prostitution. But all of them were little flat clones with long hair and nearly the same face.
The only redeeming factor was that the caravans were awesomely kitted out. And they were!
Seriously, my guess is that some of the gypsy/traveller girls in the Uk decided it might be great fun to make a movie.
If that were the case, I would have rated it much higher for being an independent and gallant effort of creativity by amateurs who had some gumption to try something.
But otherwise? Absolutely dire.
Saltburn (2023)
Well I liked it and thought it disgusting.
I've been reading the reviews and admiring the film aficionados. They certainly know their stuff and have a lot of films to compare it to. They know the actors' previous performances and comparable films. Kudos.
Unless a film is extraordinary, I will have forgotten it and its title within days of watching it. The closest I get to knowing an actor is recognising their face from another film and looking up to seeing what films they played in.
Coming at it from that perspective, I really liked (and disliked?) this film. I can usually ALWAYS guess the "bad guy" in films. In this film I couldn't tell who was the bad guy.
Oliver was creepy from the start. He was obviously obsessed with Felix. But you couldn't tell if it was hero adoration, brotherly love or lust. Felix was NICE - for being upperclass. The rest of Felix's crowd were snobby and condescending and rude, but Felix seemed to genuinely like Oliver. Whether he liked Oliver or whether it was like having an exotic pet was never clear.
Oliver gets to Saltburn and this is where other reviewers seem to get a bit irate. Actually, I thought the screenwriting might be pretty accurate. The family was... well a family. A family with far too much money and nothing to do except relieve their boredom. With nothing to do and probably not much exposure to the real world, I can see a Summer there being pretty much the way it was. And with little exposure to the real world, Oliver's tales of his dreadful life (divulged to Felix in confidence) made Oliver the exotic he was.
Naturally, anyone would want to stay there, with his idol, Felix, so Oliver tries to get in everyone's good graces in whatever way he can, including turning on the charm & seduction skills. Which just makes him more creepy.
But it's never clear to me WHY. Because he loves Felix and wants to be with him? As a brother? A lover? To BE HIM? Was the bathtub scene sexual or trying to somehow absorb Felix's essence to be more like him?
The scene with the sister could be interpreted the same way. Was he trying to win her over, help her, or humiliate her?
His motive for acceptance was clear, but WHY he wanted to be accepted never was. So, logically, I at least tentatively accepted that he wanted to be included in the rich lifestyle WITH Felix, as part of Felix's life.
I really liked Felix and thought the character was genuinely nice, if a bit self- absorbed. No, I don't think he was even that. He would notice when Felix needed help - and he would help without hesitation. But Felix was obviously into girls, so it couldn't have been a partner Oliver was angling for. Oliver never asked for anything, so that left a hero or a brother.
I don't really want to do spoilers, though people may have already seen them.
But there ARE twists that change the direction of the plot so you don't know where it's going AT ALL. I didn't see the twists coming. And every moving we watch, I guess what is going to happen and disgust my partner when it happens.
The very end was lame and I don't believe for a minute that the police wouldn't have been called and Oliver found out. And even the very very end was just a contradiction. Earlier in the movie everyone had seemed impressed with his nude body.parts. The nudity at the end...it wasn't that impressive. I think the dancing through the house scene was to make viewers wonder if he had murdered the snooty butler.
That's the mystery we will never get the answer to.
It was beautifully filmed, beautiful costumes, great acting (except Oliver, but maybe he is really not a creepy guy and worked hard to be so creepy). Great settings and good music.
Yes, there were some ewww moments. But in my opinion, they weren't there just to shock but to keep viewers confused as to who Oliver really was and what he was about.
The Otherworld (2016)
An Indie Indie movie. Very colourful
Well, I've never tripped. But this movie is what it sounds like.
First of all, I love bad movies, just to see how bad they are. And I love Indie movies. I have the greatest respect for people who DO things instead of talking big. And I love colourful movies in beautiful settings and I love costumes. And I love CGI, obviously, or how would there be "magic" in films!
Now, imagine al of that, turned on maximum and multiply it by 10.
Seriously. Even the scenery was filtered through CGI to make it sparkly and rainbow-like. Almost everything that moved had little magical sparks flowing with the movement. The unicorns had glowing LED lit horns!
Come to think of it, it should have had an epilepsy warning!
The costumes. Well. One wizard had little fairies sitting on the brim of his wizard hat. They didn't move, so either they were supposed to be fairy decorations (which is weird - like loving dogs so putting plastic dog toys all over your hat), or they were dead stuffed fairies, which is even wierder). My guess is that they were supposed to be alive, but the CGI guy's skill set didn't reach quite that far.
Largest laugh was at the main female lead character's consuming. Her elf ears kept changing until evidently they fell off and she had normal ears in the last couple scenes! Very obviously. So while it may have been a part of the story, they might have put in a line of dialogue about it. Easily done, as she had other human attributes (like the ability to become hugely pregnant) while still being an elf (evidently their chest doesn't get any bigger when they are with child.). Imagine an incredibly thin woman with no bosom whatsoever, with an exercise ball under her dress. Watching them try to kiss and look passionate at the end was the comedic element.
I can't really complain about the plot as it's supposed to be an Irish myth. The music was good. Slightly annoying to see the magic sparks flying out of lyres & flutes all the time. The scenery was beautiful.
The battle scene was fun to watch as it was SOOOOOO bad. There was more pushing & bumping each others shoulders than fighting. But it looked like they were having so much FUN doing it. How do you look like you are in mortal combat when you are having so much fun!
I've been trying so hard to figure out why so many people gave it a 10. My husband says it's sarcasm.
But I think it's admiration. People (including myself) admire the effort, the work, the spirit and the dedication of the people involved in the movie. Yes, it might be that a role-playing society said, "Let's make a movie of what we do!" But they DID IT. Then they found a CGI guy who practiced every single skill he could find in the books at every opportunity. (Hint: Less is more.)
The accents are very strange, too. I am very bad recognising accents, but they just didn't match. The female lead sounded a bit Greek or Turkish or Eastern European to me, the male lead was very Irish I think (I found him hard to understand at all), others sounded vaguely American.
It's an unusual film. Thats the best I can say about the film.
However, the people involved in it are extraordinary. It's clear they put their heart and souls into it. It is worth watching just to pay homage to their work.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Am I the only 10 rating?
Well, first of all, I'm not a die hard Marvel fan. In fact, I haven't seen any other Black Panther films is this supposed to be the 4th?
So possibly.i have had the advantage of not having the other previous films to compare it to.
I loved it. It was big, magnificent, colourful and beautifully costumed. The acting was really good, from everyone. I have to admit, that always hasn't been a strength in marvel movies. I have seen enough to be able to compare that!
There have been complaints about the plot, but I generally immediately spot the gaffes and I didn't see any. Mind you, I hadn't seen the previous movies, so there might have been some inconsistencies to previous plots.
We've been watching a lot of movies over this holiday season and this was by far one of the best.
I wasn't bored, it didn't seem too long (although we did have a wee break in the middle).
If I HAVE to complain about something, it wouldn't be about the film itself but the soundtrack. My hearing doesn't seem to be that great, and the voices in any films present a problem for me. Add to that the accents AND the speed at which the script was spoken, I had a real problem understanding any of it - oddly at places where there wasn't any background noise - only echoey places like the laboratory & empty garage. But my husband just repeated it all to me. This seems to be the case with a lot of movies, so it isn't a complaint about this film at all
It was just great. But yeah, a little far fetched the world desired machine was built as a high school science project. I have to agree with that!
Krasnyy prizrak (2020)
The best film I've seen in days but my husband hated it.
I don't particularly like Tarantino. My husband does. It reminds you more of a spaghetti western as it goes on, as the music slightly changes to the western twang soundtrack of Clint Eastwood movies.
However.... I found some of the other criticism here unjustified. I didn't think the acting was that wooden. Nazi soldiers in rank aren't going to show much character. People freezing to death in the snow are likely to be a bit stiff-faced. The humour wasn't way out ridiculous slapstick humour (like Tarantibo's deadly Western saloon turning into a vampire den. Instead, it was little things which could actually happen. As for the translations being wrong...I speak German and didn't think they were incorrect. I thought the young soldiers forced to translate death and bodily harm threats were actually Paraphrasing intentionally to try to help and calm people. In fact, I found THEIR acting really great. With very little change in facial expression, only their eyes, they managed to convey their horror and grief at at atrocities they were required to do.
And give them credit, it looked awfully cold!
Last, there was a good twist or two in the film
I liked it. Much much better than the last couple films I've seen.
Viking Blood (2019)
Viking Good, Bad & the Ugly
Well. I was thinking about this as I went to the loo...how really awful it is. But then I thought....really, the people probably DD live in ramshackle little villages. They probably DID fall out with the people who lived over the hill. They probably DIDNT have a whole lot to say to each other and when they did, I might have been just as lame. They probably DID look as dirty.
Then I realised the lead was playing the villages off against each other and it is a Viking remake of Clint Eastwood's famous spaghetti Western. Is it Tgbau, or is it "A Fistful of Dollars"?
That made it a slightly better film, as at least there was a semblance of a plot - to copy the plot of another movie. Because otherwise, it didn't make any sense at all. Really.
Usually there is pretty scenery or something to make up for it. There wasn't.
Skif (2018)
A beautiful bloody movie
First, the scenery was beautiful. I love movies with natural landscapes and thus had SUCH a variety of breathtaking scenery.
Second, the costuming was epic. It wasn't only beautiful, but the people who were supposed to look frightening looked frightening enough that our inner city hoodlems would have nightmares the rest of their lives. The DETAIL was amazing and it was REAL. You could tell it was real. The robes of the women, colourful and beautiful but coarsely woven were so obviously REAL. The fur in the robes wasn't static -ridden synthetic. Everthing was meticulously done, down to things being crudely made with "mistakes" in them.
The varying Tribes were so different, it was fascinating.
We bought a bigger tv for Christmas/birthdays and THIS MOVIE alone made it worth it. Seriously.
The subtitles were ok. My husband, who hates subtitles, thought so too. There wasn't a huge amount of dialogue, it wasn't complex to make you miss the film.
It was simply beautiful, with a good plot, good action. Well worth the time and view.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Great acting!
I don't write reviews very often, but felt compelled to write this even before we have finished the series!
The thing which has struck me the most is the scriptwriting.
The film is engaging and horrifying, spooky and just plain creepy in places.
Hill house is to absolutely DIE for, such a beautiful set. I do wonder if it exists in reality.
But the striking aspect of the film is the dialogue. There is actually quite good dialogue. For any film, much less a horror film.
In top if that, there are several monologues which are quite long (unusual in a film these day) which are highly emotional and so well acted I really think the actresses should win an award!
It's s far been great. I hope the review which said "disappointing ending" isn't correct. I'm not going to read the other reviews here as we only have 1-2 episodes left and don't want it spoiled.
But I just wanted to say I hope they actresses go far, as they certainly deserve it.
Ancestral World (2020)
The scenery was nice.
Where DOES one start!
The opening scene is two princes practicing their sword fighting. Naturally, those swords are big and heavy, but they are both pretty much the slowest swordsmen I have seen in movies.
The first facial expression the "hero" made was so odd, I asked my husband if the actor was cross-eyed.
It didn't get any better.
The costume department had a real fixation on sugar candy skulls and huge shoulder adornments., often with 2 ft long spikes. Characters would then have extended fistfights when they could have easily been impaled on a spike. There were also spikes on gloves which didn't seem to do any damage to anyone's face.
The plot was the very very worst which I haven't seen anyone mention yet. Go get some stones and make some armour to save the world. DONT let the bad guy get it. With no explanation as to how, the hero +1 know where to go to get these stones and magically appear walking up to the each of the 4 places. They fight a battle for the stone there and go for the next. Exit stage left. Appear, next place. No explanation as to how they knew the directions or location.
With the last stone's recovery, the Baddie.got ahold of the suit and donned it. Oh no! The Ancient World is lost! But no! Suddenly, the Prince shimmers and shouts something about energy being armour and POOF!! He had this weird black and furry armour with which he bested the Baddie (after the fistfight after their magic ran out).
It was just strangely awful. Critics said it wasn't bad for its budget. That must have been about a tenner.
El páramo (2021)
The other reviews say it all.
But, in addition, who would choose the most god forsaken patch of land for their serene & idyllic existence?
The filming was quite nice, but in the most frightening scenes, it was so dark you couldn't see anything. Which added to the mystery, I suppose.
That the "beast" did resemble some of the carvings adds to the question of is it real or cabin fever? We don't actually even know that at the end of the movie.
It was very long, full of screams with a child who did absolutely nothing he was told to do to keep him out of danger. He was the only person to survive and he was the character who deserved to be eaten the most!
I'm really lenient with movie ratings, usually able to find some redeeming factor.
Well, the acting was ok.
The Bone Garden (2016)
There's a reason for the stars:
Reading the critic reviews, I read this movie was:
1). Crowdfunded
And
2). Filmed in under a month
And, ok, when you watch a movie rated 3.2 out of 10, you get what you expect - a movie you watch to see just how bad it can really be.
It had an interesting plot, with several potential candidates for the "whodunnit" guesses.
While other reviewers wanted the main character killed off as she was boring & the nymphomaniac friend to take the lead, we found nympho outlandishly annoying & hoped she was next.
The script? One character says to the other, "Later, gator." Enough said. Actually, not enough said, but there are simply no words to describe the awfulness of it.
The ending made no sense a all. I mean, it DID, and it was obviously supposed to be a twist ending. However, there was another twist in there which they seemed to just forget about once they had filmed it.
Now, if they had taken the twist they forgot about and worked it INTO the last twist, THAT would have been a REAL twist ending and a real showstopper!
But no. Out of all of those people either no one thought of it or no one listened to the people who did.
So it was a mediocre ending to a really dire movie.
BUT!!!!! We are all used to movies with billion dollar budgets which take years to make.
Crowdfunding and ONE month.
For that, I think it was a great movie - an achievement for indie movies. Not many could manage that.
Deadloch (2023)
Ok, we are totally open-minded but it was just
REALLY too much.
We stopped after 2 episodes.
It was as though the entire series was just intended to shock. In fact, it was so intended to shock, became just stupid - no, past stupid, farcical.
We understand satire, but is it really satire when someone says "see you at dinner" and the other lesbian says, "yes, and speaking of dinner, I want to go down on you tonite" in front of another person.
I get some of it and found it humourous, but for the most part it was just unnecessary filth ruining what was a potentially good plot and series.
The overacting of the swearing actress was so overdone, so farcical, and just so SLAPSTICK she could have been a trained chimpanzee. I couldn't understand a word she said and 3/4 of the time she looked and acted like one as she bulged her eyes, made strained facial expressions, jumped to and fro and was generally animalistic.
That poor actress is going to be so ashamed of that role for the rest of her life - unless she's a classical Shakespearean actress trying something new.
In any case, I swear my fair share and while a few of the phrases were funny, 95% of them were just disgusting. Less is more.
I wish it hadn't have been so obnoxious. I would have liked to have known the ending.
Copenhagen Cowboy (2022)
Ingmar Bergen in full neon
That pretty much says it all.
I remember watching Ingmar Bergman as a child. It was two Grim Reapers playing tennis. As an adult, I tried watching more and it made about as much sense.
This is Ingmar Bergman in beautiful neon, in the modern world, with a few more hints, with a semblance of a plot.
It's dark, but beautiful. Miu, frankly, is just creepy. She just needs a bit of skin pattern to look reptilian. She does manage several micro expressions, which are interesting to notice, (that maybe should have had a spoiler alert), but they were only interesting in the fact of how hard screening must have been.
All in all, it's worth while watching watching because it's pretty and it's strange, However, there are so many more beautiful films to watch it's questionable why people would would watch this. Unless, like us, they are trying to figure out what it is actually about.
End of season 1. We don't know. Except there are more. And a different version that screams. Ho hum.
