Barbie (I) (2023)
8/10
One of the Best Comedies Released in the Last Few Years
22 July 2023
I went to see Barbie with the highest of expectations and it did not disappoint.

At times the whole movie theatre was laughing out loud. It was a beautiful experience to share. And there was even clapping at the end.

It does not matter if you are young or old, a man or a woman, this is a movie you will enjoy.

Do yourself a favor: leave your judgements aside and go watch it.

Brief disclaimer: it is Barbie. It does touch on some controversial issues; considering Barbie always has been a female stereotype. It touches on the place of the woman in the world, the patriarchy, etcetera. I was not prepared for that and I do have some strong personal opinions on the topic itself. That being said: everything was so beautifully done and told and funny I seriously cannot complain about it. I honestly really enjoyed it.

Fatale (II) (2020)

I did not expect this. Pleasently surprised; I enjoyed it.

Actually, I did not expect anything at all.

Ok, I'm lying. I did expect yet another movie of a crazy woman who becomes obsessed with this guy and gets him in trouble with his wife and so on and so forth. I am not a spoiler so that may or may not happen in this movie.

I went in (meaning decided to watch) with the intention to watch more sort of an emotional drama of a female lead who is a total mess and gets a bit too attached too soon. But this is not quite it. I thought it was going to be... I was totally in for that (don't judge me) but it is not quite like that.

It caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting any of it. At all. It was way better than I could have hoped. I mean I was expecting a bad movie and it was actually kinda good.

The only thing I would say, I did find it a bit slow. Some parts could be shortened I guess. But other than that I am still pleasently surprised.

You Do You (2023)
6/10
Light. Funny. Entertaining.

It's a romantic comedy, ok? It won't leave you with a life lesson or change your life. Maybe it will but that's besides the point. The purpose of this genre of movies is to entertain and in my opinion it does achieve its purpose.

If you enjoy -or you are in the mood- for a light romantic comedy with a pinch of humor, I would consider it as an option. I did laugh out loud but I'm a bit odd, so take that with a grain of salt.

TWO VERY IMPORTANT DETAILS 1) The main character sometimes talks to the camera, you have to be ok with that.

2) It's a romantic comedy. Romantic comedies are cliché. If you do not like clichés then do not watch romantic comedies. There will be at least one in all of them (if not twenty).

To sum up, do not expect a life-changing movie. Is it entertaining? I believe it is. Is it funny? It made me laugh. Will you be missing out on the best romantic comedy on Earth if you do not watch it? No.

PS: It is family-friendly :)

Muted (2023)
4/10
Not worth your time
6 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I get it. It has all of the ingredients that are required to make an intriguing series. Crime, suspense, mystery, drama, obsession, psychatry (which is a favorite of mine). However, it doesn't work.

You can have all the ingredients to make a cake but if you do not know how to mix them together, it won't work. The right amount of each ingredient, the right timing. Not opening the oven before it's ready. And so on.

Let's start with the title. "Muted"... except he talks normally with most people. I feel a little bit deceived but ok. No mistery for a psychiatrist to solve.

The whole montioring thing for psychiatric purposes... I mean; she already knew everything about him, she was just obsessed. I would have understood if it was a police investigation trying to unveil what happened but the investigation was allegedly psychiatric. Yes, there was some police involved but they were not the leaders of the investigation. Ana was supposed to study Sergio's behavior but instead ends up doing police stuff. Finding and gathering evidence as to know what happened and all of that. That is police, not psychiatric.

We have 6 episodes total for this series where only a few things happen, not a lot... and nothing too necessary to develop the plot. I feel this could have perfectly been a 2 hour movie and it may have been a bit better.

Also when Mikael tells on Cabrera to their boss over the phone.... I thought she was going to be in on it and nothing would happen to Cabrera. That would have been far more interesting.

The whole parallel story with Marta and the boyfriend and Marta's house could have easily been ommited or shortened. I also don't know the purpose of showing a-day-in-the-life of Ana and Noa playing the piano, why?

I think they put too many unnecessary fillers to make it last longer. As I said before, it could have been a 2h movie.

Last but not least... supposedly Sergio killed the parents in a fit of anger. Why did he kill Ana? What was he angry about? He certainly was not having a fit.

I don't know... it just does not add up. Nothing adds up and I also feel like nothing ever happens. You just watch it because you want to know what really happened. If that's the case you can watch the first few minutes of the first episode and then the last episode. The rest you do not really need. That makes it a bad mistery series.
