Grey's Anatomy: We've Only Just Begun (2024)
We're back to the early seasons
This episode shows that after a long break and a change in leadership, the show may be returning to a similar quality of its early seasons. The storytelling in this episode was significantly better compared to seasons 17-19. There were still a couple plot holes in one of the more dramatic scenes, but it was nothing overly important. I didn't even notice them when I watched the first time. The new dynamic with Bailey and the interns which was teased at the end of the episode as well as Meredith and Amelia's new secret mission left me excited for the rest of the season. As if the storytelling wasn't enough, the directing, cinematography, and acting all seemed to improve.
Grey's Anatomy: Training Day (2023)
Solid episode, but does a poor job of addressing abortion.
There was little to no plot progression for most of the characters, but the way the writers incorporated the abortion issue into the episode's plot was creative and engaging. This episode gives the following episode the potential to be spectacular. The cliffhanger at the end of the episode was the highlight of the episode. My main problem with this episode is that they used a metaphor to show the hypocrisy of "pro-lifers" rather than address the issue in a meaningful way similar to how they did in episode 19x5. If it weren't for the ineffective way of addressing an important issue, this episode could be much better.
Grey's Anatomy: Let's Talk About Sex (2022)
Returning to the beginning
This episode is the closest Grey's has gotten to replicating the early series since before season 14. The return of Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery was one highlight of the episode, but in my opinion, the other storylines with Zola and Simone's grandmother were the most engaging. The subtle return to the early atmosphere of the show can be seen in Levi's interaction with the interns in the locker room, as well as the entire story surrounding Simone's grandmother. In addition, the way the interns are already starting to form relationships with one another shows the writers are rediscovering the importance of developing new characters. This episode opened several opportunities for deep, heartfelt storylines, which hopefully will be explored in the upcoming episodes.
