Ted Lasso: The Strings That Bind Us (2023)
Season 3, Episode 7
7/10
These reviewers take TV too seriously
28 May 2023
Personally, I watch mostly because I like the witty banter, vis a vis the cultural (music and movies) references. "Sharp dressed men?" Funny. "Assquatch?" Hilarious! Why all the complaints about political stuff? It's a sign of the times. Racism is real and it SUCKS. Lesbian relationships? Poignant. Father/son relationships? Reality. Less of the "fish out of water" plot line? Refreshing. Series that feature characters that don't grow and evolve? Boring. Keep changing it up! As long as there are a few laugh out loud moments in each episode, I'm good. And, so far, I have laughed out loud at least a few times in every one.

The Mandalorian: Chapter 22: Guns for Hire (2023)
Season 3, Episode 6
8/10
Don't listen to the Star Wars nerds... this episode was fun. And, it did move the story forward.

Warning: Spoilers
Dear Star Wars geeks (no offense): Try to remember that this is for entertainment purposes. Star Wars isn't real. Every single episode doesn't have to move the story forward (although, this one DOES). Sometimes it can just be FUN! Why must you take it so seriously? I'm a Star Wars fan, don't get me wrong. I watch every episode of The Mandalorian at least twice. And, I don't mind if every episode doesn't contribute to the story arc in a major way. There's plenty of nods to the rest of the Star Wars universe (read the trivia section). Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are avid fans and I think they're doing a great job. This is my favorite Star Wars TV series (I've seen all of the live action stuff). Jack Black is always funny (big fan). I appreciate Lizzo's music in that she does her best to empower young women (my granddaughter and I used to listen to her). Yes, her performance here wasn't Emmy worthy. But, this isn't that kind of show, is it? Christopher Lloyd was OK. Good to see he's still able to get work. All that being said... have some episodes been a bit slow or lacked ample screen time for Din and Grogu, IMO? Sure (see Chapter 19: The Convert). However, I didn't find Chapter 22: Guns for Hire to be slow. There was action. There was Din. There was Grogu. There were plenty of recognizable Star Wars creatures and droids. And, don't forget - Captain Bombardier said he would petition the New Republic to recognize Mandalore as a sovereign system. Also, Din explained to the other Mandalorians present how Bo slayed the creature that attacked him and gained possession of the Dark Sabre (albeit briefly), and therefore was rightfully entitled to its return. They all agreed, so he did NOT just "hand it to her," as some here have stated. My point is that this episode DOES move the story along. But, in the grand scheme of things, this is all just fantasy... it shouldn't have to follow any preconceived notions of what you think a Star Wars show "should" be. Lighten up and see if you can just enjoy this for what it is - performance art created to help you forget about the horrors of real life for a few minutes. If you want to complain about something, contact your local member of Congress and tell them how they can better serve your needs. For me, I saw correlations between stories in this episode and our current American society. 1: The droids feared that humans would replace them. This speaks in reverse to our fears of fast developing artificial intelligence and robotics replacing humans in the workforce. 2: Commissioner Helgait reminded me of politically motivated extremists who resort to terrorism in an attempt to bring attention to their misguided beliefs, and distrust of the government.
