Hit Man (2023)
Delightfully engrossing after-dinner picture
The picture's name was slightly mis-leading, so I chose it to entertain my hard-to-please husband who needed some old-fashioned cinema therapy. I was only vaguely familiar with the names of writers, directors, producers, and actors. I liked it more than he did, and I liked it alot. The plot moved along quickly, held my attention continually, and presented a charming variation to a not-unfamiliar law enforcement situation. New Orleans was the setting, with actual scenes of the charming French Quarter, as well as easily recognized street scenes near the University of New Orleans. Don't pass this one up. I think you will be pleased as well.
Mother of the Bride (2024)
Ok. Ok. Predictable plot, but still a fun one.
Yes, it was a predictable plot, with the expected laughs and, for some of us, happy memories. Set in a beautiful vacation type hotel/resort in an apparent sub-tropical place - the point being: you're not in Kansas (home) anymore. Beautiful people saying witty and sometimes prophetic things. Everyone looking very well-dressed and healthy, and eating lovely resort foods and drinking libations in appealing colors and glassware. Truly a mini-vacation for viewers, with the bonus of romance x 2, and a few flirtations. The proposal setting was extra-gorgeous with a zillion roses. Finally, Benjamin Bratt was his usual adorable character, with a nearly nude scene! And other familiar faces plus good dialog made this movie a good one for a date night movie with a satisfying ending.
