This Christmas (2007)
After several viewings this movie grew on me
I watched this movie several years ago and gave it 5 stars (in my mind), after repeated viewing I upgraded it to 7 stars. It's a very realistic movie of family life: large family, some of the kids stayed home, some moved away and made career moves. The story has drama, comedic moments, the acting is great, the music beautiful. Aretha Franklin's song really moved the scene with the vehicle going into the ravine. I've read other reviews critique of religious folks living together as taboo. To me, that's life, Madear (Tyler Perry doesn't own name or character) didn't want to get remarried, but she's still human, and living her life. Good for her, she deserves love on her own terms. One plot hole I discovered was why did Malcom and his family pack and stay at the family home, when the daughter was running the dry cleaners business, didn't they live in the same town/city or at least in commuting distance? As a veteran, I immediately caught the wrong term for a Marine being away without proper leave: AWOL instead of UA (unauthorized absence). Most Christmas movies follow a certain script, but This Christmas was better than others I have watched in my 60+ years of living.
Always and Forever (2020)
BET HER stretched this nonsense to 3 hours
Ditto to all the others who rated this as confusing, bad script, etc etc etc.
I actually had to read reviews with spoilers for it to make some kind of sense, as I was bored and decided to do some holiday cleaning. Loretta Devine must have needed a paycheck. I recorded it as I wanted to see if Ms. Devine "This Christmas" daughter LL acting had improved. Slightly.
I consider this movie on the level with Lifetime women in peril movie.
Tyler Perry may have a little competition for bad writing, directing, and producing.
I would have given this 0 out of ten, but had to give it at least one star. Dumbs down.
(Finally made minimum character limit).
