Belongs on Hallmark
12 August 2023
Let me start off by saying I am a gay man. I welcome and invite gay romantic comedies IF they are done well. This one comes off as a cheesy, made for TV movie from the music, to the acting (Uma Thurman is dreadful in this), to the melodrama. The direction lacks a filmmaker's eye and it is often apparent that a theater director was at the helm. Things are played very broadly. The two lead actors are quite good with what they were given, but even they can't save this watered down version of the book. The lines they are given to deliver are often embarrassing. One about our lead wanting the Prince to eat barbecue so he could lick it off his lips was particularly corny. This film truly feels like a Lifetime or Hallmark movie.

A love letter to The Blair Witch Project
24 October 2022
This is great! I don't know how he did it but this guy stayed so true to the feel and style of the original movie. It adds to the lore of the story in such a cool way. The main character's objective is simple and made a lot of sense. He set up a reason for why he needed to redeem himself to Heather, to his colleagues, and himself. The scares are there too, just as in the original. For a solo, amateur project this is one of the most impressive flicks I've seen in a bit. I hope one day Heather, Josh, and Mike get to see this and they love it too. This guy clearly holds a ton of respect for the Blair Witch Project.

Warning: Spoilers
*minor spoilers*

If you are looking for a satisfying conclusion to the Michael and Laurie story looks elsewhere. If you want a character you have never seen or heard of to take up 80% of the movie, this one's for you. This film will be divisive for sure and unfortunately I fall into the camp that didn't like it. While I appreciate a big swing from the creative team and while I totally get the morality tale they were going for, I just wasn't a fan. With Laurie sidelined for much of Halloween Kills I was hoping we would get the showdown of all showdowns. Here we get a "Christine" type story about a newly introduced character. This would have been a great idea in any story but the finale. Michael and Laurie's final "battle" is fine...but super short. Allyson's character remains minimal and we don't see her get much once again. After the events of Kills this movie should have been her and Laurie's revenge and rebirth story. Instead we get some weird disciple story that we didn't ask for.
