The Ropers: The Rummage Sale (1980)
Best Ropers episode
This show is very close in spirit to a classic Three's Company episode. Misunderstandings and double entendres are all over the episode and make it one of the funniest episodes in the series. It starts off with the death of Mr Roper's beloved parakeet Oscar and moves on to a rummage sale being held by the Brookes church. Mrs Roper wants to help n donates various items, unfortunately unbeknownst to the Ropers, including a box filled with Mr Roper's girlie magazines! Why Jenny n Mrs Roper didn't just look more throughly through a box of magazines would've been too logical and we would not have had such a funny episode. Jeffery Tambor in great as usual and shows himself the highlight of this short lived classic series.
The Ropers: Family Feud (1980)
Where's the kids?
Young David is celebrating his 8 year old bday along with Helen(which is only half heartedly acknowledged) unfortunately, for David he appears to have no kids his age as a friend as not one child has been invited to his bday party. Even sadder, the only people invited to the party, the Ropers n the Brookes are fighting with each, which threatens the puppet show that Stanley n Jeffery have promised the young, lonely, friendless David. Spoiler alert- the puppet show does go on, although somewhat acrimoniously n the Ropers n the Brookes make peace as best they can, thanks to the wisdom of Jenny, the Ropers boarder and young, friendless David.
