Civil War is a textbook example of fragment-like film making/don't give a ***** about story telling. Putting aside all the big budget city-blowing scene, this film is like a Youtube-era amateur putting pieces of scenes together. The director will finished the scene in the middle and next scene starts in the middle of no where. And it goes on and on.
But actually none of this matters if the movie has good characters. Unfortunately this is where it fails so badly. The characters are so bad it almost make you hate them. An amateur going to the war zone behaving just like an amateur, a bunch of school-students-liked reporters playing stunt game with their car almost like they are going on a vacation. And in between, the director is obsessed with his music video scene every time when there's a fight.
Then here comes the most laughable moment at the end of the film, which is the reporter told the soldier to wait and they listened to him. What a joke. There goes all the big talks about journalism earlier in the film. Yes this is how serious this film is. A laughing joke.
I wonder the only purpose of making this film is to satisfy people who interested in conspiracy theory. They will very much enjoy their self thought about "America" in this film. But no, this is not what good filmmaking is about.
I personally think "Beef" is the best TV series last year. But A24 blows it this time, to even allow such a bad film to release under their name.
