Like a feature length "Afterschool Special"
22 December 2021
Back in the day, my neighborhood pals would gather at someone's house w/a color TV (in the 70's not everyone could afford one.) And ocassionally instead of cartoons, once in a blue moon, we'd be treated to a 30 min afterschool special usually about kids in crisis. So when I stumbled across the trailer, I decided to take my own elementary age daughter & even got some friends w/kids to go watch this one afternoon. And actually the kidz really seemed to get into it...the story seemed to strike a chord especially in one who's adopted.

Obviousy this was a very limited budget type of flick, so if you're expecting production values like the latest Spiderman reboot, you'll be disappointed. But the girls in our group got into it as a character study. I mean how often is the main protagonist in a film an 11 yr old girl?

You can't choose your family & Harper shows how life's circumstance can push one into situations beyond our control but relationship building with extended family contains a fragile beauty that can color ones life in this coming of age story.
