The Last Broadcast (1998)
Found Footage before the term exists
Major snoozefest! The movie is extremely meandering and at no point seems like it is honing in on anything in particular. A rather disappointing movie to sit through because it's so incredibly boring. The performances of the actors in the found footage tapes is overwrought to the point that you wonder if anyone has seen home videos before. Nobody really acts naturally in the interviews either, so the movie doesn't really perform on either the found footage or the mockumentary front.
Anyone giving this movie even an average 5 out of 10 stars probably watched it when it came out, completely unaware that movies like the McPherson Tape had already existed for more than ten years.
Possum (2018)
Pretense instead of suspense
Watched this movie for nearly an hour before realizing that basically nothing had happened besides pretentious narration that is supposed to act as foreshadowing to a final act that I never made it to. Great cinematography and sound design can't keep you awake if nothing is going on. The movie's concept had potential, but it's completely wasted here.
I need to make this review longer in order to actually post it, but there's legitimately nothing else to be said about this film. It is a total waste of time that you will never get back and will leave you wondering why you didn't choose something better in the end.
