Badder Ben: The Final Chapter (2017)
Respect it for what it is
Absurd. It's absurd. And delightfully so.
I don't think I've posted a review in ten years, if ever. But I feel compelled to do so here given the few reviews and the fact that they're mostly negative. This movie shouldn't be taken seriously. It's a dark comedy.
I enjoyed Bad Ben. I've recently come to love found footage films and the reason it took so long is because many don't do it right. Bad Ben does. It's spooky with a "who wants to watch this guy?" main character who brilliantly pulled it off. I wanted to watch him. He's funny, doesn't rattle easy, and doesn't believe in much. This is not your common main character for these movies. And being that he's the only character in the movie it is all the more impressive that he kept my attention. He also says and does what many audience members say/are thinking when watching paranormal movies so that is a fun breath of fresh air. The ending was worth the wait.
Steelmanville Road was entertaining but fell flat compared to Bad Ben. They lost the humor, added "meh" actors, and had a murky script. But that didn't stop me from enjoying the more obvious scares and explanation for all the confusing bits about Bad Ben. All in all, I enjoyed it but rate it much lower than the first. (Isn't that always the way with sequels?)
Badder Ben, though... man, I loved it! I clapped nerdily when the "this is for the fans" line ran at the beginning. This movie is just so silly with all the right bits of spook added in where it belongs. Having a few extra characters helps move the story and having a medium is a nice touch. Nigel Bach is amazing. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that if you enjoyed the first installment even a little then this is worth a watch. I laughed a LOT and will absolutely recommend it to any fan of horror comedies/found footage films. Enjoy!
The Midnight Hour (1985)
One of my favorites
I was only two years old when this movie first aired on TV and my aunt recorded it for Halloween. I've grown up watching it. I love it! It's got great monsters, Wolfman Jack (who can beat that?!) and great Halloween fun. I have it on tape and watch it every Halloween. I recommend this to anyone who is a lover of the fun Halloween holiday and who has good taste in a classic thriller/comedy/romance. :)
