Stay Tuned (1992)
Goes to show you the reviews are wrong, good movie!
21 January 2003
5 stars out of 10? If you read all the readers reviews, I believe everyone liked this movie (which goes to show you, don't count on the critics). It's the real people that need to review movies. Granted this isn't the type of movie that makes you think deeply about life, nor is the acting wonderful, but it's chock full of spoofs that will really pull you the first time you see it (or 2nd time). john ritter is excellent in this movie, so much in fact I would have loved to see a sequel (rather than those awful problem child movies). So glad to be seeing him back on TV, but he needs to try film again. This movie also makes you ponder the question (what is hell really like? Is it just a bunch of molten lava, or is it more personal? (granted it's probably not a bunch of TV shows, but I'm sure hell is torterous). If you haven't seen this, rent it!

Not just another hidden camera show
3 October 2002
When I saw previews, I'm like "hmm.. another hidden camera show, I guess I'll watch". Jamie kennedy is more than that. He's number 1. A master of disguise, 2. Very good at improv, he never stutters and always has a response for anything that comes up during the skits, and 3. He's said in interviews he just loves messing with people's psyche and seeing what their reaction is.. It really is amazing to watch people's reaction, I guess that's why hidden camera shows are so fun to watch. What makes his show a little bit more top notch is that he doesn't just go out on the street, he goes as far as setting up complete studio sets. The one where he's doing an informercial was the best. I'm sure if I was on the set I'd be duped too. There's even been times when he knows the people he's trying to 'X' know about the show, and he turns it around and pretends to be p****d off, in which they think it's real. I hope this show stays on for many seasons.

Whose Line Is It Anyway? (1998–2007)
True improv
3 October 2002
Many people question whether or not the show is true improv. They say "Oh, they rehearse something general beforehand, like they'll rehearse a scene about a pet, and then they go (give me a type of pet), and they just adjust a little bit". Being someone who actually went to a live version of wayne brady, I know this isn't true. They offered completely open subjects and did skits on it, which were all just as good as the show on ABC. I've loved wayne brady since way back when he was on that show "quick witz" that used to be on after SNL. What seperates this show from any other is that not only is it a true live audience (not a laugh track), but it's all made up so anything can happen (and it does). The show actually becomes funnier when they screw up.

Corky Romano (2001)
Night at roxbury better
11 July 2002
I love chris kattan on SNL, from his monkeyboy character to jibberish guy. He has such an energetic spirit about him, which shows in this film. Unfortunetely, many comedic scenes were very predictable, and laughs are far and few between. Not to mention nothing frustrates me more when they show some bumbling fool that screws up, but the manager sees a different positive view to it. I particularly laughed during the translator scene, and when he just accidently got coke on his face, and has to give a speech to kids, and he's all hyped up "questions? no? yes.. no? yes.. hiba jiba je ba jiba jeba jibba" the only way you'll laugh at this movie is if you really like chris, or mob movies.

Bandits (2001)
Mmmm.. beavers -n- ducks!

Warning: Spoilers
CONTAINS SPOILER For whatever reason, that line made me laugh (very odd thing to say when you just woke up). This movie turned out to be a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Very ingenious plot for the perfect crime, reminded me of that bill murray movie "quick change". Only one part during the movie was I able to predict what was going to happen (end scene when they shoot each other), they sort of foreshadowed that with the specialist guy when they first meet him. Also, it's rare when you see a movie where you root for the bad guy more so than the good guys.

Zoolander (2001)
dumb n dumber 2 with retro
20 March 2002
Actually, dumb n dumber actually made me laugh. This movie is so stupid I doubt you'll hardly even chuckle as I did. I love ben stiller and will farrell, but this movie was just poorly written. Let's make the 2 main characters as stupid as possible with jokes that are for a 5 year old, and then we'll stick in a bunch of 80's retro to make it seem like a fun movie, yet if you strip that away you realize how empty it is "Oh, but there's a remix of relax by powerman 5000, isn't that worth seeing it alone?" About the only cool thing about the DVD is the fact that the menus are silly, and there's tons of extended scenes and outtakes. Other than that, this movie falls way short of being enjoyable.

very much like die-hard, but in the streets of BH
6 December 2001
Ok, is this movie cheesy? well, yeah. But it's one of those films I rented when it first came out and I kind of enjoyed it (come on, the cop is the same guy who played max headroom). It has it's cheesy moments, not to mention parts that aren't believable (would the whole town really be ok with just staying up playing cards in some hotel lobby?), not to mention how they somehow had such an accurate tracking system they knew down to the penny how much loot they stole? Nothing ground breaking here, but still a good film.
