Doomsday (I) (2008)

I don't say this lightly, but this movie is terrible
6 July 2008
Look, I loved Escape from New York, Mad Max, Gladiator, Resident Evil, and every movie that this movie "pays homage" to. But frankly, this movie is terrible in every way.

In fact, I have never written a negative review of a movie before. Why? Because writing a negative movie is a waste of time. If I like a movie, I want others to see it. If I don't like a movie, then others can see it for themselves and make up their own mind. Every movie has hundreds of people who work hard and lots of people who put up very large sums of money to get it made. They really don't need anyone to "bad mouth" their work.

But this time, it's different. This movie is so ridiculous that I had to write my very first negative review. I can't even begin to explain everything that is wrong with this movie, so let me just state that, a guy who actually thought "Zombie Strippers" was decent thinks this movie is crap.

P.S. Movies that state "they're paying homage to xxxx and yyyy" are usually just a rip off of the original work. Get the hint Tarantino?

Good but dated
17 August 2007
You have to understand... this movie was made in 1990. That's about the time half the members of IMDb were born. (sorry, couldn't resist).

This movie is a spectacle to see, but only visually. For a lot of the commentary is either common knowledge now or the circumstances have changed.

As you watch this film, you'll understand why the world is the way it is today. That is, even the "experts", the people who made this film, did not know what would happen in the future.

But those who say this film is nothing to shout about, well, they're just wrong. This movie is a pioneer in environmental awareness and most of all, an achievement in filming as scenes in this movie were never seen before by man.

So, if you ever see this movie and say "oh, it's nothing new..." Think before you speak. This movie was made when the Green House Effect was "imaginary"...

Porn that is .... Beautiful
24 July 2007
I remember seeing this movie back in the mid 80's on VHS and although I can't remember how I got this movie (as I was still under 18), I remember this movie as being one of the most touching movie I had ever seen.

This movie was one of the first porn movies I had ever seen, and I recollect how it made me realize a porn movie could be just as, if not more intriguing, than a "Hollywood" feature.

Unfortunately, porn took a very bad turn in the 80's in my opinion, and became what it was stigmatized to be by the conservative parties at that time. That is, a "dirty thing".

It's like a child that is told, he/she is no good over and over again. You can bet that that child WILL grow up to be no good. And that is what American porn (and to a slightly lesser degree, European porn) has become. A dirty thing.

It's so sad to think that porn COULD have taken a completely different route to growing up. And become the swan, instead of a rotting eel in a pond.

On the other hand, movies today are becoming more explicit without the upheaval we saw back in the 70's, so perhaps progress is being made.

If you want to see what porn should have been, and NOT what it is today, I urge you to seek out this movie and view it. I hope it will change your attitude towards porn.
