Dois na Lona (1968)
Before 'Os Trapalhões'...
...There was only Renato Aragão. In this spoof comedy he plays the best friend of a wrestler and gets involved in a scheme to manipulate fights and there's some crime (but not real criminals) involved, which he 'fights' in his not very unique clowny way that generates most of the laughs. Pretty obvious and yet passable, it was made for kids (or what the kids supposedly enjoyed back then) and has a few good moments, but the best lines of Mr. Aragão would only appear after he formed the 'Os Trapalhões' group with Dedé, Mussum and Zacarias many years later... Still it's an interesting document of Mr. Aragão pre-stardom years, and if you like wrestling matches...
Armação Ilimitada (1985)
Good Old Days...
They were four: Two surfers who had a 'we-do-anything-for-money' business, their girlfriend (who couldn't decide which one was her true love) making a threesome kind of relation, and a kid that seemed to have more brain and maturity than all the previous three, TOGETHER. There were also supporting characters; the monstrous (sometimes literally) boss of the girl and her best friend, who in the course of the series had a VERY close encounter with an Extra-Terrestrial being and gave birth to a super-powerful baby. And there were satirical episodes, homage episodes, detective like episodes and the usual anything goes episodes. They fought all sort of treats to their private world and all sort of villains that they stumbled upon, and by doing that made a very funny show to watch, with memorable episodes and very few forgettable ones. Too bad it couldn't last forever!
Que Rei Sou Eu? (1989)
Avilan... or if Brazil was an European Kingdom...
The scenarios, names and everything else were of a fictitious European kingdom named Avilan. But anyone could see that it was a satire of modern day (at the time) Brazil, with a layer or two of Alexander Dumas' world. While it gave a social/political criticism in-between the burlesque plot there was also space for romance, comedy, action, suspense, a bit of drama and many more. The basis of the story was the plot made by the newly widowed queen and the leaders of the nobles when they learn that the deceased King had a son outside the marriage. They choose a beggar to replace the unknown heir and teach him how to be a King, while the real heir of the throne is completely unaware of his heritage of course, after all being the leader of an anti-nobility group takes too much of his time... And kidnappings, betrayals, wrongful imprisonments, assassinations attempts... follows one after another and another. To try to summarize the whole action between the first five chapters and the last five ones would be really hard to do! The kind of soap-opera that sadly isn't produced anymore...
