Boku no hîrô akademia (2016)
Had low expectations, blown away
To preface,
This was something my son recommended to me, as a self-professed "geek" when I was younger, collecting comic books, watching movies, you name it.
I can't believe I hadn't heard of this show sooner.
It combines elements of school life and heroics in a way that is so western but also inflected with eastern society. It's unique in that regard.
The fights are for a lack of better terms, emotional. I feel this is a series that I have never seen more emotion be a focal point of fights rather than just going through the motions. Fights end up being an emotional and physical climax.
Man, I can go on about this show, but if you were a fan of comic book heroes, Saturday morning cartoons back in the day, this is up your alley for its unique approach to those western facets and implementing them into a contemporary eastern society.
FLCL (2000)
Innovative and you can still see it today
Fooly Cooly really hasn't aged in the last 20 or so years.
Its still just as surreal as the last time I saw it. On a recent watch, I was even able to see how it affected much of the anime to come in later years.
If you like existential series, you'll enjoy this as well.
Black Lagoon (2006)
Really underrated
The premise of this series is so interesting. If you enjoy crime-type things that show a realistic approach with gangs and real low-life activity, this is it.
It's amazing.
