Dragon Ball Z Abridged (2008)
Dragon Ball Z that can be enjoyed by adults
As a kid DBZ is really fun and exciting. I could watch it over and over and over again and never get bored. However if you try to revisit it as an adult, you'll probably find it boring, slow and overall, pretty dumb.
With Dragon Ball Z Abridged you can revisit the best parts of the TV show (Saiyans, Freeza, Androids and Cell sagas) avoiding the incredibly slow pace, and childish / mostly nonsense dialogues, it turns the whole TV show into a comedy that is incredibly well thought out.
I'm really impressed at the amount of work that must have been put into this.
Kudos to TeamFourStar for such a great job.
Hunters (2020)
Doesn't know what it wants to be and very weak script
It starts off kind of ok... then it seems as if there were 3 showrunners with totally different ideas on what the show should be and instead of agreeing on a common idea, they each put a bit of what they wanted in it.
1- A Tarantino movie
2- A comic-book based movie (Kick-Ass)
3- Schindler's list
Those 3 are great, but the don't mix up well. Sometimes it looks like a silly comedy-parody, sometimes it wants to take it really seriously and feel all the WW2 - jews drama.
The characters fail to generate the slightest empathy on the viewers, at the end of episode 10, I couldn't care less if the main character died, survived or decided to kill every other character.
The "gang" makes absolutely no sense, it might in a comic book... but it's too cartoony for a tv show that shows Auschwitz and WW2 images in a kind of serious way.
- A psycho nun
- A Blaxploitation cliché girl
- An asian ex-soldier that nobody knows (or cares) how he ended up involved with the rest
- A grandpa and grandma that for some reason know how to make bombs...
- A goofy actor who is mostly a coward but actually has to act like James Bond...
- A main character who is supposed to be some kind of genius boy but mostly acts like an idiot...
- Should I go on?
The jewish theme is waayyy too heavy on some episodes, you spend a full hour listening to a bunch of guys talking english-yiddish and blabbering non-stop about religion and how badly the world has treated them. We get it, WW2 was really tough on them, but we don't need to be reminded every 20 seconds...
The plot has more holes than a Gruyère cheese... and layer upon layer of incoherence. Example:
- The main character is 19, his mum was conceived in 1945 and the tv show happens in 1977. Therefore... if she was born in 1946.. she must have conceived the kid at.. 12!! Either there is some dark rape story involved that nobody told us about (way too dark for this tv show) or the script writers just didn't stop to think for 2 seconds.
- Characters miraculously survive in unexplained ways in situations were they shouldn't.
- A character dies becuase... we need some drama, it was absolutely unnecessary, he could've survived by just not being 100% stupid.
- The final plot twist is so non-sensical and ludicrous that a character has to explain it for about 10-15 minutes of non-stop talking, trying to explain it to the viewer so it can somehow make the slightest bit of sense.
- And maaaany others.
Overall, you could say it's somewhat entertaining but it's definitely NOT a good show.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Entertaining but totally overrated
Really? a 9 out of 10? Something must be wrong... it surely is an entertaining film but the amount of plot holes, clichés and lack of coherence / logic in many of the scenes is totally overwhelming.
Will you have fun watching it? YES, it is a fun movie. Is it a great movie? NO, not even close.
It's not even a shadow of the second movie (which I believe is also a bit overrated, but still was a really good film).
I still recommend watching it, as it is quite fun, but don't expect "The Godfather part 4", as you might from some of the reviews and the 9.0 rating...
District 9 (2009)
Most overvalued film in ages
*WARNING, THERE ARE A FEW SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW*
OK, I wont say the film is terrible, boring, etc... it's not, its quite entertaining, but for god's sake, a master piece? what did so many people see that I seemed to miss? Just mixing a bit of racism with aliens is SUCH an innovation? The background of the story, is original, I don't deny it, it's a good idea, but... you get to know ALL the interesting things about the movie just by watching the teaser...
After you get the background... (briefly explained in the teaser and in the film during about the first half hour) what else do you get? NOTHING original, NOTHING special, NOTHING impressive... you just get a jerk (yes, the main character is an idiot) surrounded by the most horrible and cruel human beings that ever existed... (apparently all humans enjoy watching other species suffer, we are ALL SO EVIL!) mixed up in a lot of shooting, explosions and blood...
Someone else realized how unbelievable most character's are? - The wife, she doesn't doubt for 1 second that her husband is some kind of pervert. - The wife's father, his daughter's husband? what does he care about him, he can be ripped open for studying and he won't even blink. - The bad soldier guy (dunno his name) what's his aim in life? just killing things, if they're aliens perfect, if it's some infected dumb-ass, even better, all he wants is killing things (really profound character yes...) - Christopher (nice name for an alien Oo), I think he should be Saint Christopher, no matter if he's an alien he really should be made a saint, he is so good he doesn't give a damn how badly he is treated, he'll just go the Gandhi way... - The baby alien, what's that character supposed to be? funny? cute? rather annoying I'd say...
And if a common film of running around, shooting and going after some mcguffin throughout a story full of holes isn't enough we get that EXPECTACULAR ending scene treating the audience as real retards, the last scene says something like, hey guys! I know you are all idiots, so I'll show you, the guy is still alive, but he is an alien now! look at him making flowers as he used to when he was human...
The most remarkable scene is that in which the main character mounted on a robot sends a pig flying at his enemies! I think that says a lot about the movie...
Torrente: El brazo tonto de la ley (1998)
Great movie but not for everyone
Being Spanish as I am I find this movie amazingly funny (i've watched it a million times :P). But I must admit it might not be as funny for everyone, if you're not Spanish you'll probably find it quite stupid and boring, why? Because many of the jokes are referred to things everyone in Spain knows about but people from other parts of the world don't, some of the characters are quite... infamous in Spain and that makes them funny... and many other details as these. Torrente is something of a Spanish Homer Simpson / Peter Griffin, and everyone finds those characters funny because everyone knows quite a lot about the US and American celebrities, but with Spain... I'd say not.
