Love, Victor (2020)
Great show
Does a GREAT job at showing the struggles of a gay teen, with out being cringe. It takes a similar approach as Sex Education, where it just shows the struggles of gay teens, with out breaking the immersion by going into a long preachy speech like most CW shows do these days.
If more shows just showed the struggles the way this show and Sex Education does. A lot more straight males would be more open to watching these types of shows and it would actually help the gay community. Instead, a lot of shows these days are overly preachy and it turns off a lot of the people these shows actually need to reach to make a change for gay people.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
We get it... old women drink wine.
I loved HIMYM, so told myself that i would give this show a try and come into it with an open mind. I've watched the first 5 episodes and so far not a single episode has made me laugh.
The older version of Sophie is just annoying, so hate when her scenes pop up. There are a bunch of unfunny wine jokes in most of the episodes. Maybe this show is just trying to pull in an audience that i don't fit into, being a straight male in his early 30s. I'll most likely keep watching it to see if it improves. I don't have much hope for this show though. I was already in love with HIMYM and it's character at this point in the series. I don't feel that same charm with any of the characters on this show. I would say that even my least favorite character on HIMYM (Lily) had more charm than any of the characters on this show, because her character made me hate her. While i feel nothing for these characters.
That is enough of this rant and comparing it to HIMYM though. I understand they are different shows, with different characters. This show is frankly just not very good nor funny. Maybe if it gets renewed it will get better. I couldn't give it more than a 6/10 and that is being generous.
One of Us Is Lying (2021)
Enjoyable, but far from unique
It doesn't feel like a very unique story. I get A LOT of Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl and How to Get Away with Murder vibes from this show.
The Nate and Bronwyn relationship/characters feel like a clone of Spencer and Toby on Pretty Little Liars.
I just feel like there isn't enough being done here to set it apart from the shows listed above. I personally enjoyed all the shows listed above though, so that is most likely why i still enjoyed the first three episodes of this show. It's not going to win any awards for having a groundbreaking story, but the casting is well done and the story is interesting enough to hold my attention. If you enjoyed Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl or How to Get Away with Murder. You might want to check out this show. If you didn't enjoy those shows, then this show is most likely not going to be for you.
I didn't read the books so, not really sure how well this show holds up to them.
