Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between (2022)
Main characters are so unlikeable
I really liked the trailer of the movie, but I agree that the actual movie felt super rushed. We didn't really get to see them fall in love. Also, Clare was very unlikeable. I'm so sick of people being in serious relationships and not talking to each other. Like she calls her best friend to come and be a buffer? She talks to everyone but her actual boyfriend about their relationship. Also, Aiden not telling her about not getting into music school was annoying. Not to mention he planned this whole night and instead of telling him how she was feeling and being honest she avoided him. Like just tell him what's happening, that was so rude. He went through so much trouble, just tell him what's going on. Disappointing movie.
Doctor Foster (2015)
The deeper message
I found this show to be brilliant. From a first look I thought it was about how messy infidelity and a divorce can be, but by the end of the second season I changed my perspective. This show is a perfect example of how a couples hate for each other negatively impacted their child. Time and time again we see Simon and Gemma getting back at each other and thirsty for revenge. The things that the two of them do clearly highlight their obsession with each other. They constantly put revenge above the welfare of their child. Tom keeps getting the short end of the stick. He watches his parents do this to each other and then they are surprised that he runs away? What he witnessed and went through was incredibly traumatic for him, from seeing his mother abused to seeing his dad almost kill himself it's no wonder he left the family. I do hope he went and found Anna, because life on your own at a young age can be very scary. I don't blame Tom for leaving, his family was toxic and his parents did not have his best interests at heart. He did not learn healthy coping mechanisms and was negatively influenced by his parents actions. What he did to Isobel was horrendous and I stand by Kate's decision not to let him around her daughter. She is a prime example of how to protect your child and keep them safe. Kate constantly put Amelie above herself, even when it meant leaving Simon (so glad she did). She wanted so badly to believe that he could be faithful, but unfortunately karma is a bitch. An another note, Gemma acted out of pure spite and rage in so many instances. Mainly when she brought Tom to a field and scared him with her driving, or when she dropped him off at Kate's so he could see that his dad was cheating. Simon was no better when he disclosed to Tom that Gemma had post-partum depression, but told him without context. PPD is not something to throw in your child's face and that was absolutely disgusting. I do think that Gemma committed a self-less act when she seduced Simon and made sure Kate knew about it. Hear me out! Gemma knew Simon would never change, that he would cheat on Kate and betray the family. She did what she did so she could give Kate proof and allow her to raise her child in a healthy environment without a bad role model. She may have lost her son by doing so, but she helped Kate and Amelie immensely. There's no doubt he would have cheated down the line, once a cheater always a cheater. Gemma and Simon consistently acted out of spite and never considered how it would impact him. The parents tried to turn Tom against the other one, but by doing so lost his trust and respect. He was influenced by their bad habits and watched they lie, cheat, and embarrass each other. Not to mention watching his mom go back to his dad after all he put her through. That is not a healthy message to send to your child. This show is a clear example of how a messy divorce can destroy a family. They failed to provide him with a safe and healthy home and he deserved better. The child always loses when the parents cannot get along. Healthy co-parenting is a thing, they needed to do so much better for Tom.
