Telemarketers (2023)
Worthwhile
This is a very well done doco spanning two decades. It was interesting to see where these telemarketing scams were birthed. Some likeable and some not so likeable characters.
As for Mr Thomas Bailiff Jr, he is someone who should have stayed in prison. Asked why he was in prison he states:
"Had a highschool sweetheart, planned on getting married and while I was in the marines she left me. Got depressed, experimented with mescaline and all that culminated in one night where I ended up hallucinating, snapping and I ended up killing an innocent person"
What actually happened was the following. He was AWOL from marines. In 1982 him and his friend picked up Nancy Clark, 22, who was hitch hiking and he stabbed her in the chest in the back of the car The blade went through her heart. All other information he sprinkled in the beginning of his story is irrelevant and tells me that he never takes responsibility for his actions. Always blames someone else for his abhorrent behaviour. Him and his friend were not and are still not good people.
TMZ Investigates: Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom (2023)
More exploitation
I came into the room when my sister started watching this. It was turned off 10 minutes in because she had already had enough of the rubbish in this "investigation". Same regurgitated victim blaming and one sided narrative as always.
TMZ are still exploiting and abusing this woman. It's a new world Harvey. TMZ, Perez and the disgusting paparazzi etc are still trying to run things like they used to. We see what you are and what you do.
Absolutely not worth anyone's time imo. Especially if you don't support exploitation because that is what this is. Continued exploitation by unethical and immoral people.
Sins of Our Mother (2022)
Worth watching
It is a well done doco. Not brilliant but well done. It gives a good breakdown of the situation for people who are unaware of the case. Like others have said, it could have been done in one or two parts. Hearing Lori Vallows parents absolute delusion helped me understand where her narcissistic traits came from/developed. She was well on her way before she met dumbbell. He was not her turning point to the alley of "evil". She was already skipping down it. Two like minded individuals who are so obsessed with their own importance that it leads to the abhorrent murder of four people that includes her children. They are surrounded by creeps such as the woman who he published books for. New age evangelistic grifters. What happened is not surprising really considering the people they are and who they surrounded themselves with. "Religious" narcissistics trying to make money off of others naivety, vulnerability and suffering. The end times happens at least a couple of times a year right?
Girl Model (2011)
This documentary is about child trafficking
I have only just seen this doc. I looked up Ashley Arbaugh to see if she is still trafficking young girls but could not find any recent information. She sickens me. I looked Nadya Vall up and she seems to be doing OK but you can never truly tell by instagram. I hope all of the other young ones are OK and I hope that there are more ethical people involved now. The flippant way prostitution is discussed and blamed on minors is appalling.
I Know This Much Is True (2020)
Magnificent
Mark Ruffalo is an extraordinary artist. His two performances in this incredibly moving series has been an honour to watch. He has the ability to make micro expressions colossal punches in the gut. Any person who has experienced trauma and/or illness in their family or who is supporting a person who is going through this should watch this series. Any person who has not experienced the above but who would like to expand their knowledge should watch this.
Apologies for this not being a traditional review but rather a statement on my affection and awe for a beautiful and sometimes dark portayal of what can sometimes be an oppressive yet loving connection to a broken family. This series shows just how strong our bonds are whether they are positively moving us forward or negatively dragging us to the ground. There are moments of laughter in this series. Little gems peppered throughout that are very funny. This is not a bland and dark journey. You have a brother who is fighting for the dignity of his sibling. He also feels guilt. It is complicated as is life. I was so overwhelmed toward the end that I cried until I couldn't cry any more. A release of emotion that only a masterpiece can provide.
Orange Is the New Brown (2018)
Give it a go
No idea why the reviews are so extreme to the negative. 1 star? It is a promising series. I enjoyed it and will continue watching. Similar comedy type to Have You Been Paying Attention and Black Comedy which I also enjoy. The cast are all very talented and there are cameos by great Australian artists. Good work. I hope it continues.
