The Boys: The Instant White-Hot Wild (2022)
Too rushed
A lot happened in this episode but they never gave any moment time to marinate. It was just one thing after another.
The finale should have just been a double episode.
Moon Knight (2022)
In a word: Lame
Moon Knight is what you'd get if a boomer tried to write a "cool" and "hip" superhero for Gen Z. Just pure cringe.
It's like watching a live action children's cartoon from the early 00's. One dimensional characters, terrible plot. Easily the least believable "God's" from a Superhero movie yet.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
Great visuals, good characters, soso story
Whilst the characters and visuals were great, the story was hampered by the gratuitous use of plot armour. Actions scenes lose their gravity if only disposable characters are killed off to draw emotion. Time and again certain characters are pushed to the brink of death yet survive by acts of deus ex machina.
Foundation: Upon Awakening (2021)
Episode 4 was great, but this was a step in the wrong direction
Foundation isn't a story about characters yet the creators of this series are fixated in developing characters who are minor, if not irrelevant to the 1000 year epic.
I'm not some book puritan. In fact, most of the characters in the book are one dimensional and the changes are welcomed. However, the series is budgeting far too much time trying to develop characters and as a result the story is moving at a snails place. The strength of Foundation lies in its grand story, not individual characters. The series is starting to do the book a great disservice.
What If...? (2021)
Worth a watch, but not great breaking
A series of episodes exploring parallel stories of important moments in the MCU given. Some are completely new narratives and others explore what would have happened under a slightly different circumstance.
If you are a fan of the MCU then this will be a fun watch.
If you are growing tired of the superhero genre then give this one a pass. The stories are fun, but there is nothing deep or memorable.
Foundation (2021)
Foundation in spirit
Short: Episode 3 is awful. Episode 4 sets the stage for the series.
Long: Foundation is a 1000 year space opera, not a character based story like Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones. In the book Asimov introduces characters simply for exposition with no regard for actual character development. If a TV series were to stay true to the novel then it would have to be more like documentary like Planet Earth than a drama.
The writers have made some big changes but none of them attack the heart of the story. In episode 3 they try too hard to add in character development that the books lacked but it falls flat. It gets better after episode 4.
