The Defector (2018)
10/10
Unveiling the Uncanny Intrigue of "The Defector"
9 August 2023
"The Defector" captivates with its masterful blend of homage and parody, drawing viewers into a realm reminiscent of Cold War espionage classics while weaving in uncanny elements that escalate tension. The film's opening evokes the meticulous adaptations of Le Carré's works, akin to the pinnacle of BBC's craftsmanship. However, it's the gradual infusion of eerie elements that takes the narrative to unexpected heights. The denouement, shrouded in unsettling ambiguity, reinforces the notion that suggested horrors often surpass explicit explanations in sheer dread.

The film's production values are undoubtedly top-tier, exemplified by its atmospheric visuals and seamless cinematography. Natural, compelling performances by the cast, particularly Sean Taylor's portrayal of Prime Minister Harold Holt, ground the story in a palpable reality. Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, the film's aesthetics become an integral part of the enigmatic narrative, creating a time capsule that enhances the mystery surrounding Holt's death.

Scott Mannion's directorial prowess shines in "The Defector," offering a tightly executed thriller with a subtle layer of science fiction that enriches without veering into pretentiousness. The film's slow unraveling of this layer, while preserving its credibility, showcases Mannion's skill in maintaining a delicate balance of intrigue. This creates a cinematic experience that draws comparisons to the likes of "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," delving into the labyrinthine decisions of powerful yet seemingly mundane individuals who hold the fate of nations in their hands.

Target List: A Gripping Action Movie with Heart and a Powerful Message
2 May 2023
Target List is a movie that will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story is gripping and suspenseful, with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. The chemistry between the two main characters, Donna and Clyde, is electric, and their banter provides moments of much-needed levity in an otherwise heavy movie.

One of the things that sets Target List apart from other action movies is its focus on the fraudulent medical health system. The movie highlights the need for alternative cures and the corrupt practices of big pharma. This is a refreshing take on the action genre, which often prioritizes explosions and fight scenes over substance.

The cast of Target List is outstanding, with each actor delivering a nuanced and believable performance. The assassin hired by big pharma is a terrifying presence, and the two researchers who escape the attack are sympathetic and relatable. The film's supporting characters are also well-developed, with each actor adding depth and complexity to their roles.

The direction of the movie is masterful, with the director skillfully balancing the serious subject matter with moments of humor and levity. The action scenes are well-choreographed and intense, while the quieter moments provide necessary breathing room for the audience. The pacing of the movie is also excellent, with the story unfolding at a steady pace that keeps the audience engaged.

Overall, Target List is a fantastic movie that delivers on every level. It's a thrilling action movie with a conscience, a movie that entertains while also making a powerful statement about the need for change in the medical health system. The performances are outstanding, the direction is masterful, and the story is gripping from start to finish. This is a movie that everyone should see.

Fiddlin' (2018)

Special treat for Country Music Lovers
8 August 2022
If you like country music, bluegrass, or old-time music you are in for a special treat. Both the young and older musicians in "Fiddlin'" are mega talents. Elders have been passing the music down to the youngsters for generations. No formal training here, just a love for pickin' and fiddlin', and some rising stars in the making. With jam sessions, great flat-foot dancing, and respect shown between all, this slice of true Americana in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia is a film for the whole family.

Beyond My Expectation!
4 July 2022
I really enjoyed this film. Though I don't with what expectation people went to see this movie. I got exactly what I wanted.

All in all, I really don't see how this movie can get one or two star ratings. It's intense and a cool movie.

I highly recommend you watch Fading Petals.
