Vortex (2021)
Not just a film about dementia
While I was depressed by this film, which I guess was its intent, It was very insightful and at times uplifting. It was very predictable to see the frustration build in the husband of the wife with dementia. Somewhat weird to see that the woman who was one a psychiatrist has not been deregistered when she ceased to practice. How she is still prescribing herself pills under the knowledge of her family is kind of a strange and really out of place item in this film that really doesn't fit...
I couldn't work out whether she was poisoning her husband or not - the cocktail she made for him - it was not clear whether nor not he ever took it or not, but having a demented prescriber in the house was always going to be a very dangerous situation...
The fact the husband didn't have a medic alert disturbed me too, he was relying on a dementia patient for his wellbeing - a hypertensive smoker in poor health. I felt sorry for him.
Forced Out (2023)
Orientation...
To serve your country should have nothing to do with what floats your boat. I might say that I am hetero male, and I have worked with gay men in several roles without problem. To make the distinction that the military is something other than in that living together means you might accidentally have sex or see.something arousing is ridiculously childish. To think that gay people are less suitable for combat roles than heterosexual people has not as far as I know been proven in any study as yet. The bottom line is that society cannot tell someone who they are allowed to love, and if that particular person wants to serve their country in the armed forces - so be it.
What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? (2004)
Quantum mechanics for dummies? Not even...
I think I get the angle this film was trying to make. A kind of celestine prophesy meets the rosetta stone meets back to the future. The problem with trying to merge the facts and concepts of extremely intelligent scientists by people who are of very different types of intelligence and in fact knowledge is that you end up with a conglomeration that does not make sense to either a scientist nor a layman.
Quantum mechanics puts a lot of people off advanced physics (for fairly good reason). To have some of the more in depth concepts explained by people without even whiteboards is so atrociously inadequate it is indeed a disservice.
