Antardwand (2008)
Marriages are not always made in heaven when hell breaks loose
Antardwand takes us to the rural heartland of Bihar portraying a story of groom kidnapping. It is not a regular subject in films and to be able to showcase it with such authenticity deserves a lot of credit. Sushil Rajpal tells a story through the characters and situations which look so raw and real. Groom kidnapping was rampant during a period and it adversely impacted the lives of the groom, the bride and more often their families. Marriages are not meant to be forcefully imposed and the tragedy which follows is very well presented here. How the voices of women were suppressed by the male members of her family leading to traumatic experiences for both groom and bride was rightly expressed. Not many film makers will have the guts or creativity to touch this issue makes the film all the more special and unique. However, the film was also predictable in parts which might be because of the anticipation. It definitely touched a chord with a million hearts. It will also encourage the new age film makers to experiment and explore social issues through their thought-provoking stories and spread awareness among the masses.
Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (2021)
This Dibakar Banerjee film is also unconventional
The experimental and unconventional style of film-making certainly suits a director like Dibakar Banerjee when he comes with a film like Sandeep and Pinky Faraar. It's fresh but slow at times. It brings the best of Parineeti Chopra and one of the best performances of Arjun Kapoor as Pinky. Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav were also good additions., but the music of Anu Malik didn't make any impact. The actors were also not overacting at any point which was really a good sight. It was poetic justice in the end which is not the case with many movies these days..One thing is don't watch this movie with too many expectations..Still would recommend you to watch and come to your own conclusion..
Sherni (2021)
Vidya shines bright!!!
'Sherni' is a nice tale making its way through man-animal conflict issues, politics and finally showcases the plight of forest officers. Her own ideas, interests and decision are always in a conflict with the prevailing situation. She shines really bright once more and sometimes reminds one of the "Vidya" from Kahaani. Vijay Raaz and other actors like Brijendra Kala and Sharat Saxena also did a decent job..I was personally expecting more screen time for an actor like Neeraj Kabi..It would have been great.. Nonetheless, i was also expecting a better background score and some more action scenes..However, the director didn't disappoint. Exploring this kind of subject into a mainstream cinema surely requires some guts and creativity..However, the heart of the film was in the right place..It is surely a nice watch..
