Cloverfield (2008)

Do not waste 1.5 hours of your life
21 January 2008
OK first let me preface this with the fact that I am a big movie buff and I do actually enjoy all different genre's of movies.

What a colossal disappointment this one was. The acting was crap and unbelievable. the characters were morons. The creature was cool looking but not enough of him. The camcorder technique is not new not even by a long shot. It has been done time and time again....in fact it was done with Blair Witch. More notably it was done with one of the most critically acclaimed foreign movies of all time.... El Mariachi.

So the movie is purely an idiotic gimmick. DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE if you are looking to be entertained or looking to see a monster movie. It is an hour and a half of my life I will never get back. Don't even wait for DVD not even if someone else rents it. This movie is atrocious. I can not believe that the master mind behind Alias and LOST had something to do with it. It does not live up to the hype and it is not worthy of even being considered for any awards other than the crap stain award.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007 Video Game)

COD4 Great FPS but it's no Crysis
15 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
So yet again I venture into the new FPS PC games. This time its COD4: Modern Warfare. The graphics are actually quite good matched with some realistic weapon sounds. It features a unique concept of being able to play cross console on a LAN. That is if you network your PC with your friends XBOX 360 you can pummel them.

The story line is very basic, your standard shoot em up though there are geographical errors. The weapons are up to date and ballistics are fairly accurate. Don't buy this game if you are looking for the next generation in gaming as the graphics are no where near that of Crysis. However on the whole it is a decently put together game. Runs great on dual GeForce Ultras. My only major grip is that it has awkward controls but even these are easily corrected in the options menu.

Crysis (2007 Video Game)

The Most Exciting FPS to date
14 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Being an avid FPS PC gamer I enjoy new games as much as the next gamer. When I heard Crysis was coming out my trigger finger got itchy. As I opened my shiny new copy and installed it I was drooling from the user manual. Now happily I already have a computer that can virtually launch missiles from a galaxy far far away. I powered up Crysis and set everything on high. In a few words... HOLY SH!t!!! Not only are the graphics unbelievably clean and clear but the fading and the blur techniques are phenomenal. The AI in this game is very smart to the point of problem solving smart. Never before have I had a computer game AI hand me my a$$ while playing a game, but this one did. With its breathtaking graphics, in game weapon modding and multiple different options to accomplish goals, this is by far the best FPS I have ever played. It far exceeds Call of Duty 4 and even it's predecessor Far Cry. The final act of the game in single player opens you up to some alien bad guys are tough and in high supply. As a side note...don't play this game at the final portion in a dark room with the lights out and no one else around. There's lots of things that go boom and bump in the night.

Though it was designed for use with GPU's that support DX10 it looks very nice on DX9. I've tried both, and playing this game with dual Nvidia GeForce 8800 Ultras at 768MB each is breathtaking.
