The Taking (2014)
Starts strong, falls short
I much preferred the first half of this movie to the second. The slow burning , tense , eerie mystery around the old women combined with creepy music and creepy shots was enough to keep my attention, until it turned in another demonic seen it before possession movie.
I thought they set up something really cool with the alzheimer story , which I think could of made for a much more scary, realistic movie. Personal preference but I'm disappointed with the route the movie ends up in, and That's why it only gets a 6 from me.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Cool, stylish, slick...
I would probably give it a higher rating if it wasn't for the fact this is from the same director that made snatch, which scores just a little higher for its legendary status..
The gentlemen is a good movie. Its hilarious too for all the right reasons. Brilliant mix of actors and a simple story much like snatch, executed firmly by the talented Guy Ritchie.
It's not without its silly , flawed moments. But is any film not flawed nowadays?
Highly recommend.
Breach (2020)
Hilariously bad
Gets a 2 for the having Bruce Willis in it. He however does not save this god awful movie that shouldn't take itself as seriously as does.
I laughed a lot during this movie and it's far from a comedy.
Sound of Metal (2019)
Simply brilliant ....
Wow. What an exceptional movie. Riz Ahmed gives a performance of a life time. I was right in there with all the actors and felt each and every emotion the characters went through. It's gritty, it's real and it portrays the reality and struggle of unfortunate real life circumstances. If this doesn't propel Riz in to the spotlight and a future icon there is no hope for any of us....
Mother! (2017)
Deserves more credit...
I have to go off the first time I watched this movie and not how I felt on rewatches (all though I still enjoyed it)
I was pretty much completely mind blown when I first watched this. It isn't obvious what is going on for a big chunk of the movie (all though if you start connecting the dots the title gives away). It keeps you guessing and leaves enough bread crumbs for a casual viewer to have their own interpretation. The inevitable descend in to madness is executed in such way that makes it unique.
Highly recommend this movie if you like weird, atmospheric, dark metaphorical style.
M.O.M.: Mothers of Monsters (2020)
Solid
A solid entry to the suspense , psychological, horror found footage genre. Personally thought there was seeds planted earlier in the film that could of took it down a different route, which may of improved the over all movie and mystery. But the ever changing conflict and complex relationship on a tight rope pulling between love and hate is really the core of the movie and where it stands out, it's well enough acted to be convincing and it chugs along at a nice pace to keep you engaged
There is movies out there with similar concepts done better, perhaps not in this style, but I well recommend this movie nonetheless.
