Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (2008)
A great movie, should be required viewing in all schools
It is a great mystery to me why the liberal, anti-God crowd hates this movie. Very simply, he is saying that there should be no restraint on debating opposing ideas; however, the anti-God crowd seems to not be willing to consider that concept. In my own personal experience, among people I have known and people I have read, I have never heard or read an atheist present a persuasive argument against the existence of God. Instead, there always seems to be a great underlying sense of anger behind everything they say. And their method seems to be trying to win through intimidation. I am so impressed by Ben Stein's approach to this film. He did not engage in mud slinging. He merely let the anti-God crowd hang themselves with their own words. Well done, excellent. I enjoyed it even more the second time, and especially enjoyed the presenting of the Nazi- Darwinism connection. I give it 10 stars, noting how many of the anti-God crowd have been here earlier to try to rank it low. Nice try.
Memento (2000)
total confusion
Many people seem to consider this to be a brilliant film. Not me. It was a confusing barrage of flash backs, flash forwards, flash whatevers... There were few times when I thought I was beginning to get the drift of what was going on, but that's not how I felt by the end of the film. I believe that the intention of this film is just to mess with your mind, and that was not the sort entertainment that I was looking for when I watched it. Perhaps, at the end of the movie, they hoped I could have empathy with what it must be like to suffer from the memory condition that this guy has, so they tried to create an environment where my brain is turning itself inside out while trying to understand what's going on. Perhaps they succeeded, but I didn't like it and don't recommend it.
Mentor (2006)
Not the worst, but not worth watching either
The main reason I watched this movie was that it had a rating of 9 stars at the time. I figured that it would be a great movie. Also, I like Rutger Hauer, so that made it an added bonus. Well, I was very disappointed. Only 50 people had voted on the movie before I watched it, and they must have all been related to the producer of the movie. In my opinion, this movie ranks somewhere between fair and poor. Rutger Hauer's performance was the worst I've seen by him. It was a tired shuffling through a terrible script, surrounded by third rate unknown actors. I watched the movie all the way through, but only because I kept thinking it would get better and merit the rating. I gave this movie 1 star to offset the 9 star fraud.
