Wimbledon (2004)
a date move for guys, and girls too.
-Is K. Dunst really British? Her smile says yes. -Dunst plays a woman who is apparently very comfortable in her sexuality. She decides that she wants Colt early on and pursues him. That was refreshing to watch.
-The family drama that plays as a side-story is warm and not altogether sappy, but still cliché at times.
-The casting was well handled. All of the supporting roles are what they should be: supportive.
-This film is unorthodox for a commercial picture, in that the hero becomes a people's champion because of a romantic relationship. "Rocky" is similar but the lead actor is not totally dependent on his love interest for success. In this story, Colt can't seem to win a match without Bradbury's "support".
-Very well directed. It could have stood a little more slapstick, but hey, that might have been too much for this movie to handle
Give it a shot.
American Masters: Muddy Waters: Can't Be Satisfied (2003)
good for an introduction to the man and his music.
-I would have liked more information on the following things. a. Muddy's methods of songwriting i.e. written or unwritten-improvisation? b. Did Muddy ever get any type of training on the guitar? c. Did Muddy's innovation of big blues sound catch on right away?
-I am a man who studies feminist theory and am very appreciative of some of feminist history. I don't make it a habit of pointing out what films are sexist, and I definitely would not say that this particular film was. However, while watching "Muddy Waters: can't be satisfied" I heard someone mention a term that struck me as peculiar.
"He was a 'womanizer'," they said. For this to be true, one should evaluate the meaning of the word, why it is used, and how it is used. "Sterilize" references a process of becoming sterile. Does the term "womanize" refer to a process of becoming a woman?
-The music is terrific.
-Keith Richards must have always been under the influence.
-The outtakes are actually somewhat worthwhile.
Masked and Anonymous (2003)
heart wrenching and heart warming (somehow)
-this film makes me want to buy a passport and get the heck out of the USA.
-i liked seeing how they used the masonic temple on Wilshire for the makeshift white house.
-Was the president jack fates father?
-The new president rocked as an evil man. He was everything G W Bush wants to be. He "friggin" knocked the podium over after his speech.
-Val Kilmer is so charismatic, it makes me swoon. And I'm not even gay.
-Let's see, what else can I say?
-Apparently, Bob Dylan was supposed to sing "The Watchtower"/Hendricks but changed his mind. You know how Bob his.
-The music still comes off well. I wish Angela Bassets character was delved into.
-The DVD shows more of the supporting characters' background on the deleted scenes. The deleted parts aren't extremely helpful to the overall story. And one is just creepy.
