Maru Mann Mohi Gayu (2021)
Attempt to make a progressive show
A decent enough attempt to make a progressive show where the adage of "do not judge the book by the cover" is attempted. The female lead "Anokhi" is competent and holds the show together and makes up for some flaws in other characters. An industry that reeks of regressive shows has made a concerted attempt to instill a progressive idea of judging someone based on their personality traits and the content of their character instead of physical features. While some cliched and annoying story lines are inevitable to fill the everyday requirement of a show, this show still tries to be reformative rather than regressive.
Moti Baa Ni Nani Vahu (2021)
Another regressive show set for pre independence India
This show is filled with the most ridiculous plot line. Two random people are forced to get marry to uphold family values even when the guy loves another girl. Eventually he fakes his death to be with the other girl. Now to mark the ultimate sacrifice as the daughter in law of the household, the wife forgives him and stays with the family even though the guy now marries the girl he loves. The other girl dies and now the nani vahu again agrees to marry the scheming guy to uphold family name. Such ultimate sacrifice is only reserved for women and the guy just lives his life two timing women, faking his death and living his merry way. The writers and makers of such shows are either intentional morons or misogynists. Some basic analysis will tell that they are the latter.
Maanyta - Akash thi uncha sapna (2023)
Regressive
My folks watch this show and even they find this regressive under the garb of a progressive women oriented show. The main character is an aspiring business woman and strives to word hard for her business. But as usual to protect the name of a rich guy's family marries the son of the rich guy sacrifices her dreams. Now the rich family shows their regressive side and "women of the house" can't work but rather should head the household chores like serving meals and obeying their husband's whims. The writers and producers of such shows are rank hypocrites who portray the show as progressive and liberal but within a few episodes go back to banal regressive story lines. Even in this day and age only women are expected to make the ultimate sacrifice for maintaining the respect and sanctity of the family while guys just uphold the patriarchy.
The Freelancer (2023)
A farce, it is not a spy series but a pie in your face
The Freelancer claims in a scene with his lawyer "I am a law-abiding citizen of the United States" How? He was a cop in India then became a drunk, got clean, and then went to a school in England. Later moved to Morocco and travelled the world toting his gun. When did he fulfill the residency requirements to be a US citizen? If he just has a fake US passport, among the many he has, then you don't lie in an affidavit and on video. If he is a US citizen why is the Indian Intelligence officer doing his bidding with the CIA, why would an Indian officer care to protect a US citizen? In all his interactions with the CIA, the Freelancer presents himself as an outsider and implies the CIA is not trustworthy. Well if he is a US citizen then the CIA would be more sympathetic since their job is to protect US interest and its citizens. If you go through the series, there are many other plot holes, and convenient scenarios favoring the Freelancer. Why go through the whole ruse of hiring a lookalike; when you are going to give the abducted girl a new identity anyway? She is not some well-known personality who needs to go underground; it was quite apparent neither the CIA nor the Indian agencies cared for her. The show is style over substance and when it tries for substance it lacks coherence. I guess Neeraj has some decent pedigree but some of his work of late is rushed and just simply bad.
The Vaccine War (2023)
Jingoistic Fest
This movie is the latest attempt to tap the current wave of overt jingoism, in India that is Bharat, from "facts are not facts" director Vivek Agnihotri. Most reviews here will be from so-called Nationalists chest-thumping their favorite director and their supreme leader. Watch at your convenience by keeping your critical thinking skills on the cooler. Such movies are neither educational nor entertaining but rather influence to create an imaginary feat. Using COVID to drive highly biased content is just as harmful as the virus. Hopefully, this brand of movie-making will soon go away so that nation-building happens with the advent of critical thinking.

Brilliant- One of the Best
A long-time fan of the show. Very unique real-time format and gripping storytelling. While the emphasis is on Jack Bauer (Kiefer), the supporting cast is equally impeccable, namely Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke), Renee Walker (RIP Annie Wersching), and others. Watching earlier seasons, an episode a week was excruciatingly painful to wait. With binge-watching available today the "what happens next" answer is easily available. Some seasons are better than others, which is expected given the format and the genre but it is still better than many other shows. There will be sad moments too when some of your favorite characters are written off but just as Jack Bauer rises to save the day so will the show with an engaging plot with an equally engaging character.
