The Twilight Zone: Replay (2019)
Very well done
This episode builds on Rod Serling's legacy for political commentary. There's a reason so many original episodes involved nuclear catastrophe, war, or mysterious foreign adversaries. Cold War realities were reflected in Serling's original series.
Replay involves the current politics of the complex relationship between African Americans and law enforcement. It packs a punch that makes the viewer uncomfortable (which, I believe, is why there are so many negative comments).
Well acted. The script is great. Lots of symbolism. I especially like the symbolic nod to the Underground Railroad.
Well done.

If you've read the book, it's disappointing.
If you've read the book, this is a tough watch. I was able to make it through three episodes but no more. The story varies in critical ways which made the experience less than enjoyable for me.
The set design is great. A good job was done capturing the early 1960's.
James Franco's performance as Jake Epping was a miss.

Slow pace, credibility issues
Slow moving film which almost made me give up.
My greatest issue is with the credibility of the plot. There aren't any logical "bread crumbs" that lead to the twist...it is all a hunch. Unlike other thrillers where you can go back and discover clues and other nuggets that lead to a specific outcome, the entire motivation of the protagonist is based on a hunch (a hunch from someone with a lot of major emotional challenges). At the end of the day, the twist felt like a big reach to me.
