The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Not very convincing and not the grand finale I had expected.
I just saw a press screening of the Dark Knight Rises.
a) Blood Rushing Action And Excitement? b) Absolute Perfection? c) Just another Summer Blockbuster Movie?
That's what some of the reviews here on IMDb show as a summary.
I'm sorry to tell you that it's not a) or b) but only c). It is just another summer Blockbuster which was way too expensive.
A budget of USD 250.000.000 ? I wasn't impressed. Sure everything looked top notch and the effects or settings were visually done as good as it gets. But they left not one lasting impression with me. For this kind of money they really should have impressed the viewer.
Where was the action? When action took place it wasn't very spectacular, breathtaking or at least even cool.It was OK but that's it.
The soundtrack either didn't left a big impression with me.The main theme was the only part which sticked to my ears.
Why did almost every sentence one of the major characters uttered had to sound deep, meaningful or even philosophical?
Most of the time I felt sorry for the characters because none of them seemed to have lived a happy life.
I've read comic books all my life and I admit that I'm not such a big Batman Fan.I liked the Neal Adams Batman and the Frank Miller Dark Knight and some smaller story arcs but can't remember much else.
Still I think that the movie should have entertained me a lot more. The Dark Knight surely did so.
Gladly the ending put a smile on my face when leaving the theater. But considering a running time of 160 min. that's not very much I was left with.
To conclude it is not a bad movie but in my opinion it could have been much better.
Drive Angry (2011)
Rent it on DVD and play it LOUD!
OK I admit this movie is really dumb. But it still was fun in some masochistic way.It didn't hurt to park your brain alongside your car outside the theater either. If you try to take it serious you will have a hard time.
If anybody off the actors has read the three page script upfront and still insisted to be part of this, it either had been because they needed the money or they were totally bored and didn't mind some senseless fun.
The dialog was sometimes cool and then again unintentionally funny or just plain stupid.
The pacing of the movie was quite OK.You didn't have too much time to ask yourself why you paid so much money for a 3D B-Movie (OK I have to admit that I saw it at a Pre-screening for free, so it didn't bother me).
I really can't recommend it for a theater experience.Get it on rental for a guy's only movie night. It is like Quentin Taratinos "Death Proof" a blast from the past. Now probably with the blast you missed in Death Proof but without its class.
The 3D was OK but not overwhelming and like in 90% of all other 3D movies unnecessary.I wouldn't pay extra for this gimmick.
I had one of the loudest theater presentations I ever had and it helped to make a somewhat more lasting impression of this film than it would normally had. So if you watch it TURN IT UP! ;-)
Jurassic Park III (2001)
Next Stop:Jurassic Park the TV Series
Hmm, 87 min.(incl.end titles) for a major Hollywood Movie License? That's more like a pilot for a new TV series.
And that has been the general feel of the whole movie. Of course it's more expensive and technically advanced than a TV show but it's already been done in Part1&2 and the plot is not even worth mentioning. The whole movie is more like a "Jurassic Park the Ride" at Universal Studios. Mind- and brainless fun for the kids with some parts of violence and terror thrown in between to wake up the parents.
My advice would be to wait and rent it on Video/DVD (don't even think to buy it).
