The Last Earth Girl (2019)
Great film if you like apocalyptic
Great film if you like apocalyptic or philosophical sci fi films. I was a screener for this at a local film festival where we watch about 600-ish films a season to narrow it down to 60ish. This was one of my favourites for that year and it only didn't get in because it was sci-fi. I was surrounded by old people who had no idea what a treasure this particular film is and this isn't usually not even my type of film! (I like sci-fi but not as much apocalypse). While it didn't go to my festival, I have been following it and the director and it won several other awards at other film festivals which it certainly deserves. My only warning is that it is more philosophical and more character driven than some other films so if you are expecting pure special effects, this isn't the movie for you. If you want character development, this is the movie for you. I'd also recommend thinking what you would do if you learned what they did. I certainly did!
Triangles: Witnesses of the Holocaust (2014)
Good movie
I screened this for a film festival. I was so excited to see the subject that I wasted no time watching it after my orientation. Literally hung up the phone and hit play.
Triangles is one of the few films I have seen about LGBT people in the Holocaust. It's not a common subject, but one that does need to be discussed more.
It's not a perfect film, but given the difficulty of getting subjects willing to talk about this topic, I think it is best to err on the side of caution.
It's a relevant film for this day and age.
While this is not a film I want to run out and purchase on DVD, I would recommend if you have an interest in LGBT things in the Holocaust or LGBT studies and you happen to get a chance to see it, go catch it.
