White Man's Burden (1995)
The Road To Hell Is Paved With Movies Like These...
This movie started out with good intentions, but the premise became lost far too quickly.
The beginning scenes were beautifully crafted to show life on the flip side for both races, like the scene where a small white child is flipping through channels on TV with nearly every station and show being predominantly black. Not long after though, the whole thing takes a left turn someplace and the message gets watered down so much it's no longer recognizable.
As much of a fan as I am of John Travolta I must concede he was just terrible. Terrible acting, and that terrible awful "black voice" he used.
The dialogue was outrageously offensive because although blacks and whites speak differently the basic emotions are still the same. For example, on the phone with his wife, was what should have been a tender moment but went like this: Her -"I miss you" him - "I'm horny too".
No idea who wrote this screenplay but it was either a white person whose only experience with blacks is what they see in bad movies or on white media news outlets, OR a self-hating black person.
Movies are either entertaining or thought provoking, this is neither. Its a movie that leaves you waiting to see if it WILL be either one but then it ends, which was probably the best part, not the ending itself, but just that it ended.
The Forgotten (2004)
Ugliest Actors.
I've never seen anything more unwatchable than Julianne Moore's face when she's crying or emotional, ditto for the guy who played Ash. Neither of these two people are what I would call good-looking, Julianne Moore is an absolute dog, ditto for the guy who played Ash, and then to see either of them close-up with their faces all scrunched up and contorted in pain or anguish makes this more of a horror than a sci-fi. Gross.
Did anyone else notice that the 'alien' guy had no jawline when he was human? It was like his face just melted into his neck. I've turned down dates with guys who have no jawline, I think it's nasty and makes a guy look weak and soft.
Oh, one more thing, Anthony Edwards, nuff said there.
One exception, Gary Sinise, GOD, I would DO that man anywhere he wanted. If he hadn't been in it, I would have stopped watching the first time JM sniffed....
Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (2003)
Wonderful Casting
Compared to the first movie this movie is NOT a disappointing sequel, (err, rather, prequel?). The casting was right on target, nobody else could have pulled off Harry and Lloyd as teenagers and done it such a brilliant manner.
Everything about Dumb and Dumberer fits right along with the second movie, which seems to be a major feat in Hollywood. Never once was I left thinking "Oh Harry (or Lloyd) would never have said or done THAT!".
Not quite as humorous as first movie, but still pretty darn hilarious and wacky.
If you liked Dumb and Dumber, you'll definitely love this movie.
