The Real...: John Lennon (2000)
Season Unknown, Episode Unknown
well...yes and no
21 May 2009
On one level I agree with ebolart's assessment of this film, but overall it is the most personal(oftentimes embarrassingly so)and informative of all the Beatles/Lennon documentaries. We have all heard Yoko's side of things for years and years. That we know already. It is unheard of until this film to hear Cynthia's input regarding John's love life...and his family's take on the effect of Yoko. The interviews with Mai Pang are amazing and revealing. OK, so in this film Yoko isn't allowed to defend herself. I don't think any lies were told about her, or she would have had her say in court...knowing her as we all do. The rest of the film is worth witnessing a little bitterness from his close friends and family. We all felt it during those years...but we(John's fans) were all very patient. I think it's time to hear the other side. The film is VERY well done and exceptionally informative.

interesting

In opposition to the only review written here on the movie, the idea behind the story is a bit more complicated than stated....I think. As far as a political statement, yes it was socialistic in nature, but the crux of it's philosophy is the quote when it is suggested that the farm/commune should be run democratically, and everyone agrees that "...nah, that's what got us here in the first place". In the wake of the depression, communism was a viable solution to our citizenry....we seem to try and forget that reality....and what was "the new deal" but a socialist/communist plan that pulled us through? Very well acted/directed. A must see for political historian buffs. It is of a time long forgotten, but shouldn't be.

Beatlemania (1981)

it was fun

I was actually in this movie! Yay! My ONLY appearance in a movie was unfortunately in this turkey. And yes Christina Applegate was sitting two rows down from me...although no one had any idea who she was at that time, other than a cute little kid. My wife and I had seen Beatlemainia, the stage show, several times and went to the DC pavilion that night to see it again...AND be in the movie. It cost $6 for admission and everyone was sorted to different parts of the theater as they came in. It seemed to be an effort to get the more attractive of the those wanting to be in the movie in the front seats. We got picked to sit only 3 rows from the front, so you can see us several times throughout the film. The rest was essentially boring crap. "Everybody laugh"..."everybody scream and cheer"..."OK, be quiet for a while"... Kinda neat to see how they make a movie and actually be "directed". But other than that, anyone could tell this was NOT going to be a classic. It seemed VERY silly then and it still does. I mean why put something like an impersonation up on the screen when the camera will tell you instantly that it isn't the original? Anyway the music was good and for a treat the director let the group do part of their real show after the filming. Fun night...silly film. See it! See ME!...hahahaha
