Land Shark (2017)
Surprises, Laughs, and Aquatic Suspense
To say we had low expectations going into this film may have been an understatement. After viewing the trailer we were prepared for 70 mins of cringe and unparalleled eye covering from the sfx and acting.
We could not have been more wrong.... Yet more right.
The storyline was well thought out (from the context of potentially a university assignment rather than a blockbuster, no harm no foul), the characters were three dimensional and had flaws and triumphs abounding, and the shark itself look led like those things you leave in water to grow (but in a creepy, mysterious way). We found we were rooting for many of the characters, and quickly became invested in their mission.
The three props of the net, laser guns (painted water pistols), and "YOLO" floatie really stole the show, proving once and for all that you really don't need actual fake blood - or physics- to make an enjoyable movie. Best tinder date ever.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018)
Representation Goals
Everything about this show was nothing short of amazing. It made me feel so happy to finally have a show that didnt just add one gay couple or one strong female lead and call that representation . We got much more than that. We were able to get bada** strong female leads with so much representation of the lgbtqia+ community that it was like finally being able to take a breath of fresh air in a long time. I wish we were able to get more shows like this.
