The Famous Five (2023)
A little strange but pretty good fun
The title credits are very strange, and don't really understand what they added. The music throughout again a little odd and didn't seem to fit the location or time period, but on the whole, I found it really good fun, and nowhere near as bad as the low ratings suggest. It started really well introduced the characters decently too. Shot in the UK lovely weather, lovely water and the odd sailboat. Not too much complain about here, good fun, I suggest you give it a go. As mentioned by others, a bit of Indian Jones, a bit of the Goonies, and there are five of them! I hope there's more to come, I'd watch.
Daisy Jones & the Six (2023)
There's no magic...
I just found my attention wandering really early on in the first episode. Usually with 10 or 12 parters, the first few episodes are great and then it starts to fizzle out a bit as the writers struggle to eek out the story. I've not got great hopes for this one if it follows the same pattern. I've only seen the first episode, so need to give it more time, but if this was the pilot, I wouldn't commission it. Ten hours.
The Mrs. Loved the book, and it's got great reviews, so I'll watch another episode or two to give it a bit of a chance. Fingers crossed it will get a little more gripping. 5/10 for some cool costumes and 70s vibe.
The Bengali Detective (2011)
Hilarious, enjoyable, heart-wrenching.
Was lucky enough to catch a screening and director Q&A at the IFFI 42 - the International Film Festival India. We both really enjoyed it. Hear-warming, funny and truly sad in places, but a hugely entertaining, fact based bit of film-making. I'm reviewing this 6+ years later, and it still brings a smile to my face. See it if you can.
