Edoardo Ferrario: Temi Caldi (2019)
Funny, Great Facial Expressions
Edoardo is an Italian comedian. Similar to the other Italian comedy the comedian made fun of how awful the roads are in Rome. I had never heard anything about this, but its now been a major topic of comedy I've heard twice. I feel if they lived in Las Vegas and seen the constant construction we have for years and years at time they may not think Rome is so bad. He also did a bit on horoscopes by Breszny and Paolo Fox who I have not heard of but I am curious to look up. He made a joke and the punch line was about a Briscola game gone wrong - the subtitles didn't translate the name, so I looked it up - it's the card came Trump. He closed with a bit doing impressions of other people, including Matthew McConaughey.
Francesco de Carlo: Cose di Questo Mondo (2019)
Italians Comedy is just like American Comedy - Funny!
He starts off describing what he thinks about always being asked what is it like to live in Italy and knocking the British cuisine and unpredictable bad weather. He also joked about the road conditions in Rome with all the potholes. He said that Americans don't know geography. The topics are similar to American comics - jokes about various cultures. There was also a funny bit about being dunk and Facebooking - so relatable in any language. I enjoyed his bit on religion being like wrestling - people wear funny outfits, do funny movements, and it's probably all fake anyways. He also had great message in the end on why travel is important and how we should be like pineapple on pizza: open minded to the foreigner cause its a good opportunity for that pineapple!
Natale a 5 stelle (2018)
Cheesy Comedy - But Entertaining
This was a cute movie. I enjoyed the comedic timing of unfortunate events. The multiple people hitting their heads and put into the closet. The tangled mess between the Prime minister's wife, and the other two women all having fallen for the presidents assistant. The truth cam out in the end. Giulia made a comment that the mixed up relationships between people were like politics "all talk and no action" lol. I thought that was a super clever line. And in the end to spin the story to gain political popularity back, the prime minister decides to be gay. After watching this movie I saw someone mentioned it was better as a theater play and was originally written as such. I can totally agree with this given the plot and imagining actors running around in circles on state. I think I would enjoy this a lot on a theater stage.
Numero Zero: Alle origini del rap italiano (2015)
Very Entertaining Documentary on History of Italian Rap
I was quite excited when I saw this documentary pop-up on Netflix. I enjoy old-school American rap and hip hop, so I was really interested to see what it was like in Italian. I just assumed Italian rap existed but I was surprised to learn how much it was inspired by rap and hip-hop of the United States. In the beginnings of Italian hip-hop and rap it was heavily English based and the artists who first got into it would have a song or two, but it took a while for someone to make a full rap album in the Italian language. The rap culture was proud to be different from the techno and club scene where there was also a lot of use of synthetic drugs, pills, ect. The rap culture "smoked good weed" and "drank good wine" but that was it. And it was American rap that lead the way to others rapping about weed. Cypress Hill did it years prior to Italians. They mention in the film that Italians looked up to the US rap artists and got inspiration from them. Also the first rap album played on American Radio was in New York on Afrika Bambaataa's radio show. He happens to be a favorite of mine who had such an ear for music from all over the world.
Sulla mia pelle (2018)
Based on True Events, Incredibly Sad and Eye Opening
Wow! So I watched On My Skin only having read the one sentence synopsis on Netflix, after seeing it listed as a suggestion on the assignment list. I thought to myself, this sounds interesting - guy spends a bad week in prison, based on true events. I typically like crime shows and things based on true events. Having not been familiar with this story or the time period where hundreds died in prisons from bad treatment, I was in for quite a shock. Within the first few minutes you see a man dead in a jail hospital... then they go back a week and start telling the events leading up to his death. I remained hopeful throughout the film that Stefano would recover and go on to fight against the unjustness of the system. I was way off. He indeed died and the way he was treated was terrible. This actor was great, he really made me feel for him. I was really crushed when he noted to the social worker that it wasn't that he didn't want treatment, he just wanted treatment after he spoke with his lawyer. I didnt understand the mindset of him refusing to be helped just to try and speak with the police. then again I wasn't beaten to death by the police. And so many knew the truth yet didn't stand up to the a abusive cops. Very eye opening story.
L'ispettore Coliandro: Il giorno del lupo (2003)
Season 1 Episode 1 - Lighthearted Crime Drama with some comic relief and gore
I really enjoyed the first episode of this television series. The plot was similar to other shows/movies in that it starts out with a cop who had messed up and got demoted and then takes an unconventional path to prove himself and get his job back. Inspector Coliandro had been working in the accounting department and messing up the orders of yogurt when he went to speak with another detective in that detectives office. When the undercover detective left Coliandro stayed behind to re-hang a picture. Before leaving a girl enters after getting a bad vibe on a pony Express delivery and crashing her bike to find a disk and 250000. Coliandro agrees to help the girl however throughout the process of returning the money she gets scared and there is a bit of cat and mouse play before they finally meet up again. The money belonged to one Mafia family who accused the other mafia family of stealing and the Maffia also had a law enforcement t informant. Coliandro cracks the case and is reinstated to the crime squad by the female judge.
