David vs Goliath (2020)
A fascinating journey!
This is a documentary mainly about a year long poker journey (from zero knowledge, to actually pretty good player!), but its not all about poker - there are some great anecdotes, brain science pieces, and lovely locations from across the world to see.
Whether you know or don't know David, he's the perfect selection / casting from Grosvenor - he wears his heart on his sleeve, speaks well, and his interactions with those he meets makes for a great show and experience.
It's a pretty amazing journey, you get a sense right away that he knows nothing about the game of poker, but then the transformation is clear to see. Of course he learns from the best but still, in that tournament setting, it's a one player game. I thought he explained well how he deals with feedback and teaching in the part when he explains what to say when the boxer comes back to the corner after a round. This helps us understand why his 'training' wasn't sinking in from his early mentors, and why things start to clock for him later.
Overall, a great portrayal of one man's journey, filmed over a whole year which makes it more impressive. I'm going to watch it again, and would recommend!
