Cobra Kai: Cobra Kai Never Dies (2018)
Nostalgic to the core
This episode was full of nostalgia. Danny visiting Mr. Miyagi's grave was a tear-jerker moment for me. The rivalry continues between Danny and Jonny.
Ambient (2015)
Mixed feelings; good idea but no development
I love post-apocalyptic themes so I went into this one with high expectations. Sadly, this short series wasn't up to snuff. Acting was mediocre at best. Story flow was awkward and disjointed. The idea was good; a computer program/virus kills off users through a sort of sound wave. However, we don't know how it gets into computers, or why. The ending was anti-climatic and finite. So there can't be any more of this series made.
Uncle Bobby (1964)
another Canadian institution
Uncle Bobby, another of the Saturday morning childrens' shows that entertained me as a child. I remember Uncle Bobby for his British accent, the puppet that he used to speak to, and like another person mentioned, the birthday song that had the main puppet kissing the other puppet who was his "girlfriend". She would appear only for the "Birthday Song". Happy Birthday to you, (kiss) Happy Birthday to you (kiss), Happy Birthday to all of you (kiss), Happy Birthday to you (kiss). That was something I haven't seen since 1977, yet still remember it... I once met Uncle Bobby and a country club my family belonged to in Toronto. I was picked as his assistant for his magic show. After the show he gave me some little gifts, and I still remember the inscription, "Love from Uncle Bobby." As a kid, I didn't get it, but as an adult I totally understand. This person did nothing but love children and tried to teach values and cooperation through entertainment. I remember that each show also included a Police Sgt. that would give tips for playing or biking or anything in a safe manner. What I would give to see something like that on today's Saturday morning line-up. It would be the gem in the crown of any responsible network offering childrens' programming. Anyway, Uncle Bobby the man and show will always remain dear to me, as I am sure it would to anyone who watched it.
Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place (1998)
Lots of fun
I get this show via satelite, and enjoy every minute of it. It's lots of fun, with the antics of Berg and Pete. Lots of laughs and a somewhat predictable ending makes this show rather easy to watch. Viewer can sit back, relax and let this show entertain you with a minimum of strain to the cranium. All in all, a good show!
Crown and Country (1998)
Very interesting
I really enjoy this production. It explores the relationship between the British Royal family and the countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. In the history of the British monarchy, Prince Edward takes us places where we can see and feel the sites and reinactments that make us better understand what happened, and all the nuiances that add to the interest of the particular piece of history. Prince Edward does an excellent job as the host, and makes it all the more interesting, as he is personally involved in the history.
Hamish Macbeth (1995)
A great show
I have just started watching this show because it is offered on satelite here in Japan. I love it, and enjoy the small-town characters and situations. I am of Scotish ancestry and enjoy seeing something of the countryside and Scotish people. Also, the acting is great and the characters are fun. Hamish MacBeth is played by the very talented Robert Carlyle. Hamish is the small-town police officer who is inter-twined with the town. He is part of the town yet has to be the law as well, which puts him into situations on occasion. The townfolk are great and well played. I wish that the show had more seasons than it did, but I am glad to have what I can get! If you are a fan of Scotland or small towns and mysteries, then you'll enjoy this one!
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Something that moves me
I was not very interested in this movie when it hit the theaters. I only rented the DVD because of a lack of choice in the local video shop near my house in Japan. I though,"Ya, this should be ok, I guess." To my surprise, I have not been moved by a movie in a long time, until I saw this one. It was the main character, David, that got me to tears at the end. I am not going to spoil it, but for anyone who has had a lifelong dream for their child come to reality, then you will want to see this. This is a power movie! David really comes into being as the movie progresses and has a singular desire. Through adventure and adversity, he finally achieves his goal. That is where the "water-works" began for me, and as a 35 year old man, I am not afraid to say it. The story is presented very well, and the acting is excellent. Jude Law, William Hurt, but great. David, played by Haley Joel Osment was, as in The Sixth Sence, excellent and carries the lead very competently! Not many young actors can do what he does. It is really the progression of the story that should keep you watching, and following the development of David and he never-ending determination. We can learn from this characteristic. All in all, a movie that will leave you with something.
Being Human (1994)
Excellent look at society
I thought this was an excellent film. Robin Willams takes the serious side of life and portrays it well. The most memorable part is during the pre-historic scene. His expression and utter helplessness when his family is taken away is something I will never forget.
