True Detective: Night Country: Part 6 (2024)
This was insulting
I loved season one. I hated season two, then I liked season three.
This... the themes are confusing, the whatever haunting Navarro was not consistent, and finally
What actually happened was completely stupid. I thought it was going one direction, but instead it went a completely stupid direction. I did watch the whole thing, but every hint of greatness was followed by a slab avalanche of disappointment. To do what they did without leaving any evidence.... and... that is about articulate as I can be.
I think both lead actresses did great with what they were given, but what they were given was trash.
Malignant (2021)
B+ horror movie
I really enjoyed this, it is basically a B horror movie with the added benefit of a great script, talented director, and awesome acting.
Like "Basket Case" with a big budget. It does not have the originality and impact of the Conjuring movies, but it is a lot of fun.
Psych: A Nightmare on State Street (2014)
I get it
I get the low reviews, this is not exactly an episode which follows the Psych formula.
However, as a lover of horror movies I find this episode absolutely delightful.
Cramming so many references into a series of dream sequences was absolutely wonderful. I also love mysteries, but I could care less about the mystery in this specific episode.
I just want to sit back and watch Ash... I mean Bruce... continue to torture Gus.
If you take this episode as a homage to horror not neccessrily a continuance of Psych, it is very enjoyable.
Midnight Mass: Book VII: Revelation (2021)
Vonderful...
I loves the Haunting of Hill House series, I did not finish the Bly Manor one. I am a fan of Mike Flanagan's other works.
Evaluating this series on its own without making comparisons to his earlier work, I rank it nine out of ten.
Excellent at building tension, wonderful dialogue, cool continuous shots, and an excellent story.
I am a sucker for this genre of supernatural. The twist has a real bite.
As for the townspeople not acting natural, I have experience in small, very religious, tight knit communities, and this is pretty much how it would go.
Worth a watch!
The Gentlemen (2019)
The Guy, what a guy!
I first heard of Guy Ritchie on the Joe Rogan podcast. I went and quickly watched the King Arthurish King Arthur movie and quickly forgot about him.
I was working my way through Scorsese and Tarantino movies when I came accross "Lock, Stock, and two Smoking Barrels" went from this to "Snatch" to "RocknRolla" and never looked back.
Movies about crime and boxing that take themselves seriously enough to be worth the watch, but lightly enough you don't end up depressed at the end.
"The Gentlemen" is a return to form. Acting is excellent, but the writing is what brings this home.
I got sucked into the action and often laughed out loud. "Snatch" beats this one as my favorite, but this one dodges buckshot and comes in as second.
Highly recommended.
