There's Something Wrong with the Children (2023)
There's something wrong with this movie
If this movie was free or on Lifetime, I'd probably give a better rating. The acting is so bad that it's hard to disregard. There are creepy aspects of the film and it does a decent job of building suspense I guess, but overall falls short in what you'd expect based on the trailer.
It takes a little over 35-45 minutes for horror fans to see anything substantial which makes it difficult to stay interested. I completely appreciate and enjoy a slow burn but with the horrible acting and lack of major thrills as mentioned, it almost doesn't seem worth it to stick though the movie.
This is definitely one to pass.
Terrifier 2 (2022)
If you like gore, you're in the right place
This movie, just like the Art films before it, are total fun, entertaining gorefests. Think The Hills Have Eyes or several of the Rob Zombie films. If you don't like those, just don't review or watch honestly because that's exactly what this is- but better.
It seems we don't have many gory, horror films that push the boundary like the Terrifier movies. There is a complete story to follow, evil villain, and kills that are unimaginable. Art is a true horror icon as it seems the younger generation has never seen something come to fruition like this.
Definitely give these movies, this one specifically, a shot if you're into gore that just doesn't let up!
Student Body (2022)
Where's the horror?
This movie honestly has no substance, the acting is god awful, and there's absolutely no plot. I've seen my share of Lifetime movies but this is just comical at how bad it is. I'm seriously questioning how movies like this are able to be funded/made.
To even label this as a horror or thriller is a stretch. Maybe wait until it's free and you have nothing to watch but definitely save your money on this garbage movie.
We Need to Do Something (2021)
You need to not watch this
What a waste of time. Very dull plot with absolutely no answers in the end. Just as the movie picks up and you think it's going to be promising, it falls short and you're left disappointed. Honestly should be a crime to do this to viewers. No it's not "artsy" and there's no "hidden message"- it's literally like watching a black hole into nothing. Skip it.
Them (2021)
Nothing like it
This show is honestly a masterpiece. I truly, 1000%, don't understand negative reviews.
The acting is incredible, storyline is heart breaking, and the trauma endured is something we all need to keep in mind.
I'm a long time horror/suspense/ thriller lover and i feel like I've really seen it all. I haven't watched something in a long time that shook me like this.
Give it a shot. It's honestly such a well done show. Regardless of if you "like the plot" or whatever, you have to appreciate it.
The Price of Honor (2014)
Lots of missing pieces
This documentary describes what is undoubtedly a terrible tragedy. The people they had on did a great job telling their stories of Amina and Sarah.
But let's be real... it could have been done so much better. The interviews were really sloppy and pieced together in a very mediocre way. What bothered me the most was that Sarah wasn't talked about at all? I seriously question WHY they focused so much on the other sister and didn't give Sarah an ounce of acknowledgment. Besides here and there dialogue about her... where's the rest? This is proved by the ending when a person brings one bouquet of roses for Amina and just tears some off for Sarah...
I don't know.. something felt so off about this. But regardless I think we can agree their mother is a pathological liar who doesn't know her a** from her elbows.
Wrong Turn (2021)
Promising... but falls short
Don't get me wrong, this is an OK horror movie in today's climate I guess... But if you're a Wrong Turn fan, don't expect to see what we so well have come to know about the franchise. It really doesn't have much in common with the movies except being in Virginia and being (somewhat) gory.
It actually is so not similar to the movies that I question why it was given this title. They probably should have made it something completely different and NOT related to the OG Wrong Turn.
Regardless, I guess it's a good enough horror movie to watch. But come weary with what you may think it'll be.
Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer (2021)
Must see documentary
This documentary mainly goes in depth on what Ramirez did, his victims, and their life during/after the attacks. The 4 episode series do a great job telling viewers exactly what happened while making sure there is a cohesive timeline to follow along with.
However, on the fourth episode they briefly bring up an author of a famous book made about the Night Stalker. In the book, the author goes wayyyyy in depth about Ramirez's childhood, trauma, family, etc. The show doesn't do that at all (although it seems they left it out for a reason- to showcase the victims more). I think it still would have been extremely beneficial to talk a LITTLE more about the killer, not just 5 minutes into his life... The book talked about what Ramirez felt through all this which gave good insight into his personality, reasoning, etc. Also, the series shows you how terribly annoying the media/news reporters are.
Overall, really good documentary that focuses mainly on his crimes and the work officers/detectives went through to catch him.
Uncle Peckerhead (2020)
Give it a try!
You see the title and you're probably like.... uh no thanks? But this movie actually really does a good job of keeping you interested the whole time. Good mix of gore, comedy, and a solid storyline that was easy/entertaining to follow. Acting was on par as well. Definitely worth a watch!
What Lies Below (2020)
Why the hype?
SEVERAL of the positive reviews here are specifically about the lead actor in the film. Is that all it takes for good ratings these days? Really...?
The acting was god awful. There were so many things not explained in this movie that it just makes it infuriating. Seemed like an over the top CGI Lifetime movie. What a waste of time.
Scream Queens (2015)
AMAZING
WE NEED SEASON 3!!! This show hooks you from the first episode. So entertaining and amazing plot. Love it!
Slasher (2016)
Nothing like it
This show is amazing. Keeps you wanting more after every episode! I wish they made more series like this.
Me Before You (2016)
Ignore every bad review
There is nothing negative you can say about this movie. If you need a good tear or a reason to hold your loved ones tight, this is it. The acting and the story line show no fault whatsoever. I absolutely cannot recommend this movie enough.
Harpoon (2019)
Just amazing
Honestly the horror/thriller realm needs more movies like this. I always try to find something similar but just can't. Everything about the way this movie was done was amazing!
Extremity (2018)
The gore people look for!
I'm really not sure why this has such horrible reviews or why people call it "pretentious"?
This is a gory, entertaining movie. New movies these days focus so much on social media, stupid new norms, etc. This movie had a solid, cohesive story that kept you wanting to see where it went and what was going to happen. If you like a bloody mess of a movie, watch this. So good!
The Devil All the Time (2020)
All around amazing
Every single cast member was absolutely incredible. Yes the movie is long (like so many great films are) but this was captivating. Definitely a must see.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
Why... just why
I have seen countless psychological films and this one was absolutely terrible. The main actress was so irritating that it was difficult to get past any dialogue involving her. This movie tries so incredibly hard to be "smart", "thought provoking", and "edgy" that is just makes you angry because it's none of those things.
I am in disbelief at people saying this will win all types of awards. If a film can get awards for absolutely no plot/explanation, annoying conversations, and meaningless story (without reading the book) then this is it I guess??? Total garbage and almost 2.5 hours I'll never get back.
