I'm afraid this movie gets so many poor reviews from religious people not wanting this story made into the movie it has become. It almost seems that it is organized to write so many reviews with just one star. To give a movie of this quality just one star means you don't know anything about movies at all. I understand it's hard to accept a different vision or view from the makers but for me it was a great movie with special effects I have not seen much of before. I didn't see this movie for religious reasons, I like the way they made me believe I was looking at old Egypt. If you don't mind a different view of the biblical story and like movies of this kind you cannot be disappointed.

A great movie that is different from the average...

If you're not into movies like these, don't go watch it. Seeing so many negative reviews, it must be because the viewers don't appreciate this mix of dark humor, drama, romance, thriller and some horror. It's shot beautifully and the acting is great. I still see many movies and had a video rental store for 26 years. If a movie can surprise me in a good way, it must be a great movie. And of course there are better movies, but this one really surprised me in a positive way. I loved the performance of Daniel Radcliffe. It's fun to see him doing well in other movies than the Potter series. It's promising for the next movies in which he will star in.

Not as bad as rating suggests

I watched this movie and when going to IMDb for the specs for my database I noticed the low score it gets. I do not want to argue with people since more than 11,000 people voted for this movie and gave it this rating. I guess not many people like these kind of movies. When I checked the rating for "Wild Wild West", a movie that I like too, it had the same poor rating. I think both movies are well made though. Good actors, good action. Oscar worthy? NO. But if you look at the movies I rented well in my video rental store it were mostly movies that had average ratings. I've seen thousands of movies since I watched almost everything I bought for my store and even more. I do like "Oscar worthy" movies too but not solely. Movies are also made for pure entertainment. Movies that are not complex, easy to watch and easy going. I think these two movie mentioned are of that kind. So I can understand lower rates, but I cannot understand such low rates. The only explanation I can come up with is that people don't like the way this genre (western) is brought: with modern (SF) elements. Like someone mentioned in another review about this movie: there are real poor movies getting better scores than this one. Look at some of the latest "Steven Seagal" movies. These B-type movies get double the points they deserve in my opinion.

At first I thought I was going to see a remake of "Red Dawn", but it seems the book "Tomorrow, When the War Began" was written long after "Red Dawn" was made. The beginning of the movie is fine. I got the idea it's not made (or written?) for adults. I was numerous times annoyed by the weak conversations and acting. It's not the real acting I was disappointed in but the way they behave and react when things happen. It's so unreal. I would blame the director for this, unless, as is mentioned in other reviews, the writer insisted on keeping it close and strict to the book. (Which would make it a poor book in my opinion). I know lots of movies are unreal compared to real life, but it's the art to let us believe it is. I think with more convincing dialogs and reactions of the actors this could have been maybe an 8. I liked the beautiful scenery of Australia. It was captured nicely into the movie. This movie leaves me with mixed feelings. Normally I wouldn't bother about a poor movie after seeing one, but this one could have been so much better...

Don't watch this movie for it's great story, it's really thin. To my knowledge this was an attempt to make an erotic movie with porn scenes included, that would be watchable for women in general, unlike most hardcore porn. I must say the acting is decent. This was made for television (and rental/retail DVD) so the budget must have been low. I would not recommend this to people that want to see a good movie, it's far from that, but if you want to get into an erotic mood this could be it. After seeing plenty of hardcore movies in my video-rental store for over 25 years (porn was not more then 5% of the business), I'm sure that this new approach for erotic movie making is what lots of couples want. With a little better stories, bigger budgets and maybe other genres there could be a market. I gave this movie 7 stars because it's a nice attempt for a movie of this kind.
