Svidetel (2023)

Decent movie from the unpopular Russian point of view

Firstly, I'm a military movie buff and don't care about politics if the film is done correctly.

Seeing the low review score for this, I felt that I needed to watch it and give it a fair shake.

Each country produces their own propaganda movies & that is to be expected. After watching all of the pro-Ukrainian movies, I wanted to see one from the Russian viewpoint and this movie delivered that.

For the movie, I was only able to locate a very rough copy, so I can't comment on the video quality.

The acting is fine and anyone who had seen the actual "real" videos on LiveLeak coming out of the Ukraine from 2014 will be familiar with some of the subject matter.

It's totally pro-Russian (as expected) with some Holocaust vibes thrown in and of course anyone pro-Ukrainian will object to and downvote it.

As with any conflict/war, atrocities are committed by both sides; no one comes out completely clean and no one will ever know the truth, except those who were there.

Overall, it's a decent film and worth a watch, if you can find it.

Assault on Hill 400 (2023)

Bad acting for the most part with a weak plot. Michael Madsen and Billy Baldwin's performance is severely lacking. These actors (and I use that term loosely for this movie) need to hang it up, if you see their names in a movie, it's going to be one to avoid. The best acting came from the nurse, who has a minor part and Eric Roberts is underutilized; mainly just clicking a camera every few seconds.

Some of the gear and uniforms were okay, while others are really poor quality; you can see better at a reenactment. It's apparent that there was no technical advisor and the Germans are for the most part laughable.

Wolves of War (2022)

This low budget movie has so many flaws, it's ridiculous. It looks as if it was put together by people who collected army gear and then decided to make a movie with it.

Anyone who has ever served in the military or even been to a proper reenactment will start to see the problems within the first 10 minutes.

From the start, it's quite obvious that no military consultant was used for this film. Field gear is worn incorrectly, some of it looks fresh from the surplus store and it's mismatched.

The German soldiers really bombed. Their field gear & appearance is extremely poor, unauthentic & some of the uniforms look almost homemade. There's no excuse for this when quality reproductions are widely available from a multitude of sources.

It's a shame they couldn't even pick up a book or do an Internet search to use as reference for what equipment & grooming standards to use.

Save yourself the time and money and pass on this one.

Company of Heroes (2013 Video)

Not worth your time

Poor quality special effects, inaccurate uniforms: Germans with Heer uniforms & SS insignia/Luftwaffe caps mixed with SS insignia, vehicles sporting swastikas and the tanks, what are they supposed to be? And the equipment...Shut it off half way through; Don't waste your time on this one, if you like realistic accuracy.

A good film, especially for all of us that were die hard Fox fans during that time period, who had no idea what was going on behind the scenes.
