Flashforward (2009)
A fantastic show, gone too soon.
12 years on, I still wonder occasionally what would have happened with each character's story arc.
A coworker had been on me to watch this series after 'Lost' ended, but I refused to get wrapped up in another show so intensely. I had moved to a new country, was involved in new things, but then found myself laying on the couch, recuperating after a freak injury when I clicked on the first episode to see what the fuss was about.
From the first moments, I was hooked. No one else had written a sci-fi story where the whole world blacked out and saw their futures, or not.
I binged watched episodes over the next couple of weeks until one night, I clicked and there was no next Flash Forward, literally. I clicked again in denial. Then searched the interwebs to find out what happened to my show. Gutted and in disbelief, I called the friend who told me to watch it to give her a piece of my mind, like it was some sort of sick joke. Lol. She laughed and asked why I started watching that when she told me about it "two years ago!!" Really? I had no idea so much time had passed, but the greatest show ever since Lost was indeed cancelled.
Zero closure. I will never forgive the producers and network executives for ending it without wrapping up a single storyline. We were robbed.
Final thoughts: FF is still worth watching, as it presents concepts surrounding life choices we often prefer to bury deep within. But second chances do and can happen. Live well and stand up for love.
Final Final thoughts: The diversity in the cast was incredible and includes many actors who went on to become stars in later series.
Outlander: Echoes (2022)
Why the Negative Nellys? Season 6 is epic!
First off, I was not a book reader before I started watching the series and only started listening to the audio version during Droughtlander. I stopped midway during 'A Breath of Snow and Ashes' to keep pace with the live series version and do not regret it.
For those who are book faithful, good for you! This is not the book! It is an adaptation, so please do not spoil the journey for the rest of us or overly criticize the producers and writers for making changes. A lot of work goes into giving us this stunning visual, and we should thank them for their efforts.
The song: The opening song changes each season, nothing new here. Remember in S2, when it changed with Claire and Jamie (and Murtagh) landed in France? I'd love to know the story behind why it changed to a male voice, then duet for S6. I thought perhaps it was because of storylines depicting the male POV with Fergus, Ian, and Jamie, but could be wrong after finishing the last episode this season.
The storylines: Brilliant! I can't remember a season where individual characters got as much attention with their backstory. We finally got to see their actors shine and I hope to see more of this.
The plot thickens: Malva vs Claire. Seems like a losing bet from the start, but the ghost of Malva is still throwing punches from beyond the grave.
Lionel Brown vs Claire: I'm beginning to hate this "man" more than Stephen Bonnet. His voice and that look make me want to throw things at my television, but he's not worth it, so. He is taking up way to much free space in Claire's head. I do hope she buries that ether along with her demons in the garden.
Lizzy and the twins: Wow. This is going to be interesting. And suddenly, no head bonnet? Is that a metaphor for losing her maidenhead? Interesting, indeed.
To Starz and the producers of the greatest show on Earth, please run it all the way through book 10!
